This is my local slipway and the one i've used for Lundy missions. I've gotta say first off that i have seen some seriously stupid behaviour from some pwc users down there. Not saying that all pwc users are irresponsible, but like i say i've seen some crazy stuff happen. Not surprised at all when the councillor said they'd be banned.
Now appledore pwc club have stepped up to the plate and agreed to help police the area, which is a big ask and a decent thing for them to do. I'm still seeing skiers speeding everywhere though. A few years back there was a slipway manager down there, but it was a thankless task and i think they'd struggle to find a replacement, even if there was a budget.
It's by no means just the skiers who are speeding. Last weekend, out sailing off appledore i saw a large rib travelling flat out in a 6knot area.
Basically the way it'll pan out is that nothing will be done until one day, sooner or later, someone in the water gets mown down by a skier or rib, or two boats collide. It will happen.
