There may not be a HIN on a boat of that age. On the Pacific Ribs we know the number was made up of year and the number that had been made that year. So 8210 would be 1982 and the tenth hull. You could try e mailing VT and asking them about your hull number. You won't get in through the front door without invitation/apointment though, place like Fort Knox and I was asked not to photograph anything whilst I was there.
Off the top of my head I think my number is 9591 so I guess its still the same format. Although I always assumed from my number that it was made up from the year of build and total number off the production line as I wouldn't have thought they would build 91 boats in a year!
Where did you find this number? There should be a stainless plate on the transom which you obviously wont have but another screwed to the deck up the bow. All the boats I've come across have had 4 digit numbers
