Assault or Destroyer?

Simple question which would be a better rough weather boat, a 5m Destroyer or a 5.9m Assault. Both cost roughly the same and take similar sized engines.

The boat wouldn't be used for diving, fishing or load carrying etc just having fun in rough weather.

Forgot to say about the Ocean Pro 5.3m with a 2m beam as well?

Having had both there is really no contest. Check through Destroyer/Assault threads and you can reread ALL the arguments for and against each of them.

5m Destroyer Every Time!

Assaults Over 5m are rubbish.

Come down if you want to try both side by side.

I love my 5m Assault, however the 5.7 I had didnt stay the correct way up for long.

I was going to suggest that, but I guessed there are two secondhand ribs available to choose between?

Also the Attaque (what was renamed as the O-Pro) if we're going down that road. But I suspect if we're not careful, this could end up as another 300 entry "why not buy a <substitute your favourite 5m rib here>" thread!

<edit, just noticed Chewy's edit - Yep, mine's the grandad of it (renamed Attaque, then O-Pro) and it eats the rough stuff for breakfast - I can take waves head on seated at speed which I'd have been "tacking" through relatively slowly in the SR>

Let me explain further,The Assault hull might not be as efficient as the deeper V hull in rough water.

I admit I am biased but it's an Ocean Pro for me every time, unbelievable sea-keeping for a 5m RIB!!

You should definately go with the destroyer.The 5.9 assault will still slap the water rather than cut through it.I have just bought a 5.3 destroyer ,selling the 5 metre assault because of that problem,its also very narrow unlike the destroyers and you get soaked in slight rough seas.The destroyer has answered all these problems.I should think the 5.0 and 5.3 will be very similar.From all the pictures i've looked at the ocean pro narrow beam versions hull does not seem to look that much deeper than the assaults and also the bow does not seem to be as high as the destroyers,even the equally wide bodied version until you more towards the six metre mark.

The O-Pro is a bit like a "compact & bijoux" destroyer - it has a deep V - I can assure you of that having had to buy longer trailer side roller support props to make it fit the trailer properly.......
