Atlantic 21 ?
Hi all
I will start by adding a previous link and you will be aware of what i have gone and done. http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?...light=atlantic
I love my Pacific 22, i have owned it for nearly 7 years, i wanted a bit more speed but like the all weather capabilty, so i thought a bit of a project would be a good idea.
I saw this with the engine bay and considered fitting a 250- 300hp diesel (petrol not allowed if i want to code it) but it has as far as i can make out it has never an inboard fitted.
I have a spare set of refurbished Pacific 22 tubes and a complete Sternpowr outdrive (but it's a 103 and not a 101) so a couple of the expensive bit i have, the main reason for buying.
It almost looks a bit of a hybrid, it could be used as either, if i dont fit an inboard it will have a pair of outboards 100's -150's.
It has a large fuel tank under the console but the space is bigger than that of my pacific.
Console is a bit of a mess, it has been glassed over so the surface is rough to say the least, i will fit a new console but will try and not go into quite as much details as Mr Pete 7
I have now removed the deck, it had been fibre glassed over (badly) and let water in around the edges, it got under and rotted out the wood, it had also been repaired on the Stbd side and has been filled with expanding foam i have up load some pics

More later

Now i don't think i could be so lucky as to have got a 75, but if i have
ripped all the expanding foam out tonight and it has had a smack on the rear Stbd side, so angle grinder and fiberglass this weekend.
How well does yours go with that engine on it, i was trying for twin 100hp +.

This Is my Atlantic 21 with the deck up.
Yours dose not look like that. but in a photo i see a skin fiiting in the hull so would say pac 22 or atlantic 21 with a bow tank.

A bit of an update, i went down to take some measurements today, after lifting the deck and clearing out the expanding foam, it showed that i need some teak strips for the sides so i can fix the tubes securely, cos it's a bit rotten and it seams point less not doing the job right.
So i took the measurments and things didn't add up, so i measured the hull deck length and it comes out at 22 feet, which seems a bit long for a 21 ft rib, when i add the tube overhangs it looks like i have got myself a 24 footer, so now i am wondering is it a Pacific, Atlantic or an Artic.
Does anyone have any pics or info on Halmatic 24 ft ribs so i can try and narrow down to which hull i have.
Cheers
Ian

thanks guys
The trouble is the guy i bought it off of didn't know any history and i know when i want to insure it, they are going to ask what it is.
the confusing bit is it has an engine bay, not been used for an inboard, no access from engine bay to stern compartment for gearbox and shaft, transom is a lot thicker than my Pacific one above deck.

how well does yours go with the twin 75's on it, do you have yours coded, if so, how much differance did it make.

I know this is FIBnet but my Atlantic does 36knts. It was a little sluggish with the 50's only just pushing 28 max. It is a fantastic boat. I would suggest sticking the consol as far forward as possible. You get soaked even on a flat calm day with it in the middle. The boat would be great with twin yammy 90's if you can. I would love to stick twin 115 or 125 Opti's on but it would be too heavy for the boat. I have been teaching guys on Artic 28's, 24's, 22's and Pac 28's, 22's But halmatics certainly worked very hard on the Atlantic 21. Im impressed!!
I do miss the 59knts from the 24' Artic twin 200hp EFI. . The 2 boats are effectivly the same length after having my old work mates bringing the boats down to see me I had the chance to compare. The 24 sits so much higher in the water and is bomb proof! However I did keep up with the sluggish Arctic 28 with twin 200hp Carbs. She needed a good drain I think.

i was thinking of fitting twin 135 or 150's ( 2 strokes, 4's to heavy) and sticking some weight in the bow, also fitting a bow tank to add a bit more weight when required.
I need to use this in heavy weather, as it seems i will be spending a lot of my time driving from Plymouth to Salcombe on behalf of Sea Start.
I am wondering if it is going to be a silly thing selling my Pacific.

Not 100% convinced selling the Pac 22 is a good idea. We call her the sea tractor. Never found it wanting.(even copped well in the cape wrath irish sea and aberdeen area, outdoing the Arctic 22 massivly) I have done the trip from Salcombe to Plymouth many times and I can understand your concern with the sea state. You could do far worse than both the boats you have! I am very envious
Stick a single 225 fourstroke on it
If that is not an option then you might as well pop twin 150's with a bow tank up front. You will deffinatly need the extra weight up front though! She will be seriously arse end heavy. The boat will be lifting its nose so much so, you will be very uncumfortable but it will keep you safe! As I am sure your tractor has

I think that is where the original fuel tanks were situated.

now that is a thought, but the tank that is in there now is under the console A la Pacific, but it is a lot lot bigger 3ft6 x 4ft not measured the depth yet.
There was a possibilty i was going to fit a twin turbo v6/v8 diesel and connect it to a Volvo dp drive, but that would be a lot more work.

Atlantic 21
My Atlantic is 7.25m long, it does have the Atlantic 75 type sponsons which are turned up at the stern though.
I am considering changing the console for a wide console with double jockey seats and was going to move it forward to reduce the flighty nose that seems to appear in most Atlantic 21 photos! But am suprised you say the rib gives a wet ride.

Why do you think it has an engine bay? Is that not just part of the structure of the hull?
A pair of E-tec 130's would look nice on the transom.

Yeah it is a little wet on any following sea regardless of seastate. As you can see on my website gallery (pics are a bit old) the atlantic is 100% standard still. Perhaps that is its only let down (centre consol) It is very capable boat, with the right coxwain at her wheel it is capable of most of the sea's I have been in. I have seen the footage of the RNLI boys turning one. Unfortunatly thoses guys were not reading the surf conditions and did not act accordingly to the breaking swell. They just went in s astraight line regardless of breaking waves and left the power on far to long. Youtube is great for a laugh though
