Atlantic 21 rebuild
We purchased our Atlantic 21 back in 2005 and shipped her to the Ionian Islands Greece, to work as a service boat for our fleet of bareboat sailing boats (Nisos Yacht Charter). Previously she led a pampered life as "Herald" the Sidmouth Inshore lifeboat and was built back in 1989.
She originally ran 2 Mariner 60's and then we fitted Tohatsu 90 2 strokes for many years (getting through quite a few!). She covered a lot of miles in all conditions, being called out most days covering an area from Corfu down to Zakynthos (with the islands of Lefkas, Meganissi, Cephalonia and Ithika being in between).
This winter we decided the time was for a major overhaul. Her original tubes were tired and needed replacing and she was taking in water, and the Tohatsu engines needed replacing.
We looked at getting the work done locally, but finally decided that if this RIB was to last us another ten years of hard work, then only the best would do, and following a call to Henshaws, UK, we decided to ship her back to the UK for them to do their stuff.
The following is being done:
- strip completely
- new tubes in RNLI spec hypalon
- new deck
- check and clean fuel system
- repair and respray the hull
- repair and powder coat A frame
- refurbish steering gear
- new seats
- remove ancillary fittings and fixtures / wiring not required
- fit two new Yamaha 90 2 stroke engines.
Basically we hope she will end up looking and performing like a new boat. I will update this thread with pictures as the work progresses!
We have also recently purchased a beautiful Avon Searider (from Barrowboy on here), which will work alongside the Atlantic 21 giving us back up and covering the immediate area around Lefkas.

Will be a nice boat when completed, guess will move pretty OK with 2 x 90 Yams's!
Is there much wood under the deck, longitudinal and transverse stringers in the hull or is it only GRP?

It's good to see this boat again — it lived next door to my sailing club in its former life. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished article!

Hi James - excellent to hear!
She is a very special boat to us - we love her dearly - hence the hefty refurb!
We can't wait to get her back

I'm betting the Atlantic will turn out to be a much better refurb than that old Searider you bought off Tony

He did a good job on that Searider - they will compliment each other very well indeed!

She looks good. The Atlantic 21 was always more fun than the Atlantic 75. Harder on the crew but much more nippy and manoeverable.

Nearing the end of this project now. We can't believe how much of a good job Henshaws have done for us. Thank you for all your hard work guys!
Should be delivered to Greece to start work again next week!
