Aux engine mount failure.

Hi guys,

Finally managed to get the boat out yesterday, hadn’t realised how much I have actually missed it !

Anyway, just wanted to make people aware that the auxiliary engine mount/plate gave way with out any warning. It was all checked before I went out, condition and how secure the bolts were.

Lucky enough I caught it before it hit the main engine or dropped into the drink !

That's been knackered a long time by looks of the rot.

Good catch of your aux and good reminder the condition of the wood is critical.

Think plastic is the way forward !
The bracket is only 3 years old..... this is prob it’s 4th season tho.
I give most things a good visual before it goes out......

Anyway, at least I was lucky ! [emoji4]

Good that you caught it in time. These adjustable brackets are often overlooked, subject to the ravages of salt water and vibration. My auxilliary engines, i loop a ratchet strap around the engine block, through the starter rope hole on the cowl and hook onto a stainless U bolt on the transom knee.

You want an off cut of this stuff! https://www.syuhmwpe.com/product/marien-fender-pad.html

That stuff looks solid...... intact 30yrs that’s all that could be left of the run [emoji23]

I’m going to email them for a price when I’ve measured the exact size.

Thanks guys !

Ply's better, it's just you need to look after it. The HPDE pads have been known to tear the bolts through.

HDPE is an engineering plastic all bolts should have washers to spread the load ive never had any probs with it. you need the best marine ply grade because it's guaranteed not to have voids in it where rot starts
