Welcome to Ribnet, whether you have a SIB or a RIB you’ll find plenty of useful info on here.
A RIB is a Fibreglass, Aluminium or Carbon etc solid hull with a set of inflatable tubes around the edge.
A SIB is an inflatable boat with a soft floor normally covered with a removeable deck made from Wood, Aluminium or an inflatable ‘Airdeck’.
Or in other words, a SIB can be fully deflated and rolled up for transport and storage if you wish, where as a RIB cannot.
Hope that makes sense.
Oh, and there are loads of SIBs advertised as RIBs on ebay etc.
Nasher.

My Avon Sib has a plate on the transom which states the max weight and hp of the outboard.
I run a johnson 15hp on it and it works really well together.
Are you in Newport (Gwent)?

Dan,
Welcome.
This is no more than an observational thought, but at 10 foot, is the entire "back" of the boat wooden, with two cones poking out where the toobs stop, or does the inflatable tube go right round the boat and the engine clamps onto a small wooden bracket held onto the toobs by a bit of bent metal tube in 4 ruber mounts?
This is important - if it's 10' long I think you may have a Redcrest, which will only take something like 3Hp - hanging a 15 on one of them if you are lucky it will stay afloat long enough to pull the starter cord - more likely rip the entire bracket off just by the weight of the engine!
Whatever it is, you've still found the best place to talk about it though!

Hello and welcome. Any 15-20hp modern-day four stroke should be fine. That would get you up on the plane and ribbing with the best of us. By the way, hang on to that Seagull; they're collectors' items nowadays.

Hi,
Yeah, you'll be ok with a bigger lump on that. Check the plate- from memory the max HP varies with the length on those. (like if you get the 4.5m one it's something like 35 or 40Hp which will rip the back off the Small one - I don't have the useful buit of paper to hand at the mo, but someone will no doubt be along soon.....)
If it's the smoke that puts you off the Seagull, don't worry - they all do that, it's a "feature" of the 10:1 mix!

Hi Dan
My Avon was almost identical to yours,
Maybe slightly younger. Think it was a Avon Sportboat 340. With an inflatable keel.
Since selling it I have regreted it so much, We used to have 3 of us in it down in Swansea bay. Fun, Fun. Fun !
