Avon Adventure age

Hi, Happy New Year! I have an Avon 450 that I have just purchased is there a quick way of telling it's age from the serial number I was told it was a 2005 but I'm not convinced! Also it has a slow leak in the rear tube which I can't locate, I think it's where it's bonded to the hull, can anyone advise of a good rib repair place in the Midlands? Thanks!

Hi, It should be the last two numbers of the serial number.

05 = 2005

As far as I know it's the same for most boats, with Avon's it the last three numbers that are important. e.g.

Serial number ending in 605 = June 2005

Serial number ending in 195 = Jan 1995

With regards to repairs, I'm sure you can find the problem and hopefully solve it yourself. Have you checked to see if the valves are leaking?

Also post some pictures if you can as we always like to see a new purchase

Get a bowl of water and squirt some washing up liquid in it, then grab a soft paint brush and paint the soapy water over the tubes and watch for bubbles - I did this alot with my last boat as it sprang a leak on a regular basis and it works a treat.

Thanks guys, I bought it from a broker who couldn't find the leak, it's just in the rear chamber, I shall investigate with soap and water.

RIBase
The third number before the end is not the month but is the year of the model . Month could be the letter before .

The added bonus with this method is you also get a clean boat!!

Find a local RIB broker/dealer and see who fixes his boats, if no one here had a recommendation.
