Avon sea rider sr4 or avon adventure 4.5

Hello guys. I'm considering purchasing one of the above.
The adventure has a mariner 50hp 2stroke autolube 2005ish.
The sr4 has a yamaha 50hp autolube, probably mid 90's.
Im not sure of the year of either boat and both are fair condition, tilt and trim ect.
I'm wanting a boat for watersports and a few days out with wife and kids. There's not a huge difference in price.
Opinions please and thanks in advance.

The sr4 will probably be the better riding boat when its choppy, the adventure will have less vee to the hull & will slam a bit when its lumpy. The adventure will have a bit more internal space which might be more of an attraction if your fine weather boaters engine wise the 50 yam is a peach but nothing majorly wrong with the mariner.
Check condition of both carefully but major faults aside it boils down to do you want more space at the expense of slightly poorer sea keeping

Thanks for your reply.
Pretty much confirming what I had been reading elsewhere. I don't think il be out when it's too rough but would like to have confidence in my boat if weather changes. I'm considering puting an extra seat into the sr4. Would I be right in saying that the yamaha would be worth as much as the mariner even though it is older?
Thanks again.

When it comes to older engines condition is everything, after 15 or 20 years old a few years of age dont make a huge difference. Personally I'd always rate a Yamaha above a merc/mariner & like I said the 3 cylinder yam is a particularly good engine. So yes I'd say the yam would possibly be the more valuable engine although you would probably get good service from the merc too

OK. That's great. Food for thought.
Thankyou for the sound advice.

The SR4 is a superior seaboat. I can comfortably cruise 4 up in mine. The Adventurer is indeed a much shallower V hull and is quite slappy in any sort of chop, although may appeal more as it's more leisure styled. Both are well made boats. Personally given the choice I'd go for the SR4. Decent ones hold their price very very well but are becoming increasingly hard to find. Have you got a photo of each you can post?

PS. The engine fitted to the SR4 you describe is considered by many as the perfect engine for that boat as it's punchy and lightweight. It sounds like a nice setup. They also hold their value very well if in good condition.
