Avon Searider 4

Hi all,

Just been given an Avon Searider 4. Its old, but got got a nice mariner 50 on the back...

The boat has been sitting for over a year, tubes were flat but still had air in them!! Now inflated and seem to be holding air ok (over 5 days now). The boat still had its bung in so was full of water, going to replace battery and conectors. All controls and steering move freely and still are greesed up...

Turned engine by hand also prop by hand so not siezed or anything. Before i finally try to start her up for the first time anyone got any other things to check? has been stood for over a year!

Anyone know anything about these ribs? Its the model with screen (missing) and two seats facing forward (like speadboat etc, not jockey).

Although not what i was originally looking for (want bigger, around 6m) as it was free, thought it wotrth spending little/time/money on LOL

Any advice would be appreciated.

Mike

An SR4 for free!

Get some new fuel mix in the oil and give it a try.
Mine used to have the screen and porn seats fitted but I replaced them with a console.
Good little boat but scary fast with a 60hp on the back.

Get some photos posted.

How fast is scary fast?

And why refer to it as porn seating, or I am just being naive

Sorry retro porn seating.
Not sure how fast it goes but its more than quick enough for a 4m RIB!

Not sure what year any of it is, but the Mariner is oil injected, engine looks like its just been serviced white grease on everything. Going to ditch the fuel thats in the tank, about 20 litres... anyone know how to get rid of petrol - no good me mixing bit a time into the car-- both my cars deisel!!

Not sure how it will handle on the water, smaller than any rib i have been on and gets bit choppy down here in the channel (I go out from Folkestone/Rye area mainly, but my boat is a 23ft and its not too bad)

All going well, going to get rid of boat, try the rib and then get bigger rib.

Thanks for your help

Mike

Will post some picks later, I would prefer a console and jockey seat - how hard/costly was it to do?

A couple of litres at a time won't bother the Diesel engine, but if the car has a catalyst then the oil could harm it.

Sorry, should have added "nice one" on the Searider. If I had an excuse for another boat I'd have a 4m Searider in a flash, and I'd keep the flooding hull.

What difference does the flooding hull make? mine has one. My cars have the euro engines with particulate filters in.. so still going to be stuck wiith it, might add little at time to boat and use it up.. Forgot to mention came with Ringo as well.. LOL

Don't under estimate the little seariders. You'll love it, great in the rough too. Do a search on here, tons of info.
At rest or going along at displacement speeds the hull is flooded giving a very stable boat. Then when you get to plaining speeds the hull empties. Some like to block off the hull to save fuel and to get on the plain quicker.

You'll see plenty on here if about it It makes them sit lower and more stable when at a standstill. Then when you gun them all the water sloshes out and they take off like a scalded cat.

Send a message via Skype™ to TUFTY
4m Searider

If you go for a centre console I would be interested in the "porn seats"

Let me know when / If you may be selling them.

Pic of the boat would be good.

My searider looks like your original, except i dont have elephants trunks and it has a seat/locker across the beam in the cntre of the boat housing battery and ropes at the moment. Mine is antifowled in cream, looks better in your colour though!

If all goes well I will post picks later today... (She who must be obeyed wants to go shopping as kids only got 1 more week off school LOL)

Hi mike,
the RIB in the link belongs to Chewy. Try a search on here for all the info you need to know.
Just typed searider 4m into the search and it came up with this
http://rib.net/forum/search.php?searchid=1400633
Searching for SR4 (searider 4m)
http://rib.net/forum/search.php?searchid=1400637

Nos4r2's build thread
http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?...&highlight=sr4

They are fast, stable and allot on here rate them very highly
