Avon Searider 4m

Bought an old Searider off here a year ago

I'm trying to tidy it up a bit so I spent today replacing the valve seals and rubbing down the floor with fine wet n dry also did the console.

This is where I need some advice

I was thinking of painting the deck with non slip Flo-coat & patching a few bolt holes in the transom & console then painting these with smooth Flo-coat also thinking of Flo-coat on the hull.

Will the hull mark as it goes on & off the trailer or is the Flo-coat fairly tough.

The deck is in fairly good shape other than the orange is a bit faded in places, is it worth painting or am I not going to gain much.

The tubes are in ok nick but a couple of the seams are not stuck that well one tube has a slight leak which I'll sort later.

Really don't think it is worth the cost of a re-tube so I'm thinking of wear patches over the seams & rubbing strakes to smarten it up a bit. Is this a diy job or one for a specialist? Any ideas on cost?

Might need to remove the engine to get at the transom its a Mariner 40hp 4 stroke is this something I can lift off or do I need a block & tackle.

engine wise I would say about 75kg so two strong blokes could lift it off. make up a outboard stand for it before, then you have somewhere to put it.

as you are in Warrington I would suggest SIT Ltd to get your tubes sorted, I'm sure they would be happy to give you a quote for re-gluing the seams etc, they have just made a new set of tubes for my SR4, the originals were well beyond fixing with glue

Thanks 75kg is not that bad so it should come off in one lift.

Thanks Chris had a look at the SIT website only 20 miles from me

The tubes really are not that bad just look a bit tatty so its more cosmetic where s/s rings ect have been pulled off.

Must say your tubes look spot on

there is another local tube company but I haven't used them so can't recommend them, but SIT are spot on, I'm sure they would be happy to have a look at your tubes and give you a quote for repairs and any additions you may want.

yes, they did an excellent job, made up with how it's turned out so far, just need to fit the engine now

That would be us. We are at Wigan so bit nearer to you.
We are ex Eurocraft so have plenty of experience between us.

ah, knew you would be about somewhere, Eurocraft built the tubes on our 1st rib, a 5.2m Tempest as used by Safewater Training at New Brighton, a great rib

if you mean how much did the tubes cost on our SR4, then it's going to depend on what you want, but 2k+ would be a good starting point

Chris your hull & console look very clean & bright have you refurbed these ?

I've got the console filled & rubbed down ready for painting do you know if I can
use a diy spray can or has it got to be a spray shop with 2 pack?

hi, the hull & deck were tidied up by Mike Whitham of Whitham Glassfibre, he also supplied and fitted the console / jockey seats, so it's basically all new apart from the original hull. can't really offer any advice on the best way to finish your console off as I've never done one myself, but there are plenty on here who have, you could try Barrowboy as he's just done his console, send him a pm as he's off shore at present but has got interweb access, tell him I said he has plenty of time on his hands to help you out, should do the trick let me know if you need any details of who have done stuff for me, they have all been spot on and really helped me out with my SR4

Thanks Barrowboy my console had a dozen holes varying from 2"-!/4" so I've had to glass & fill plus its had a few repairs before I bought the rib its now a mixture of colours

Top job on your console.

Decided to buy a 2 ton engine hoist today prob better than messing about so I guess this SR is going to become a bit of a project.

I've pulled all the console to pieces glassed it & primed ready for painting going to use polyurethane 2 pack for this.

Ordered a new Teleflex steering set up & decided to remove the grey anti fouling off the hull using some type of paint remover. (the advert makes it sound easy)

Regarding the tubes I've done a lot of work for a guy who is a Zodiac agent so its booked to go in for a tidy up ect in a couple of weeks.

I'm still not sure what to do regarding the deck seems like an easy-ish job to Flo coat the hard bit seems to be the verticals ect ?
