1. Depends how long the string is, but a lot less than you think.
2. Yes or No or possibly maybe ?
Welcome to rib.net.

well, maybe yes or no.
need more info to give you a better idea of whether to bother with it.
i.e cost, what kit is with the boat, condition of tubes/hull/deck/transom etc.
they are good boats so good chance it would be a good rib.........depends on the above if you have more info/pics.
cheers

There seems to be a lot of "whats it worth" about at the minute. On here you will get 3 replies:
1. A value with a 10 fold range because it very much depends on a lot of things you haven't told us and even then there will be variables like two people near the boat want it and are prepared to pay a bit extra to avoid travelling or no-one near its interested and so everyone has to travel and doesn't want to.
2. "Its worth what someone will pay for it" - never really helpful but a reasonable fact
3. How long is a piece of string
There are 6 key parts to the value:
- Location
- Trailer
- Hull
- Engine
- Tubes
- Electronics & Extras
The boys on here did a refurb on a 5.4m SR for charity last year. It was a beautiful output on a good second hand trailer with new tubes and a good Yam 90 and loads of extras. I think it went for under £20k. But you probably shouldn't even be thinking of a figure 1/10th that without the engine, trailer, electronics and work needed on the hull. If it needs re-toobed that could cost £4k. If it needs work - set a budget and tripple it.
You should be able to get SR5.4 parts for almost all bits.

I will have a go then as a guide.
Used motor £3k
Used trailer £1k
Steering/throttle/cables etc £1k
Bits and bobs £1k
And thats basic and only if you know what you are doing and know where to get the bits you need.
If the tubes need work or replacing add another £4k, if the transom or floor needs work, add another £2k.

my tuppence FWIW, based on the poor info we have available.
looks like it is worth a closer look for sure.
assuming the tubes hold air plus the deck/transom and hull are okay i'm gonna say you will be looking at about £1750 ish as it is. a good one is worth about 3.5-4k with the A frame minus trailer/motor.
that needs a lot of work but it would be worth it looking at the spec of it.
it all depends how much it is for sale for now i guess and the condition of the bits mentioned.
cheers

Landlocked... what you didn't say was what that would get you! i.e. a package you could re-sell for ?£5-10k

You are spot on with the money . They want £ 1750 but with my non existent knowledge it is too big of a project for me + more money finished than I have to spend . I would be happy to pass the details onto any of you guys here if its something you want to get your hands dirty with .

The prices quoted for bits need not be adhered to if budget does not allow.....however it would be a shame to skimp on that boat.....but it is a good boat and if you can do it then it will serve you well. Could improve on it as time goes by.
You could get a usable trailer for 750 quid, say 1500 for an engine and probably another 500-1k for steering and bits/bobs. The bits and bobs is where the money goes on boats.
If you do it correctly you will end up with a nice boat if you have the skills and time required to do it. Or the time to learn the skills perhaps? It doesn't look that much of a job on the surface to get it tidy....assuming it is structurally sound.
My gut feeling is even on the tightest of budgets you will be over 4.5k to get it wet without attempting to fix anything major and with usable outboard and trailer.
Cheers

This is how I see it
braked trailer 1-1.5k
engine correct for weight 2500-3000
gear cables 100
steering cable 85
has it a Big T Helm and Bezel? if not 250
are you putting Aframe on it and brackets.. if you cannot find them ... to have made 750
cleaners/Gelcoat/sundries 500
If you want the tubes put back with new strake and made tidy 1000
and around 1.5 months of labour to get that looking nice. these figs are approx and you can go as far as you want but something that concerns me is that the holes in the transom have not been covered up and I know that boat has been for sale for a long time

Go on then I'll stick my oar in.
When buying a boat of that vintage there are only really 2 things to consider-
a, condition of hull/transom
b, condition of tubes.
These are the 2 money pits in older boats, everything else is quantifiable. You can look around & view dozens of trailers, engines etc & wait until the right ones come along that suit your needs & budget. Once you've bought the boat however, you're stuck with it. I would want to be very sure I wasn't buying a lemon & given your level of experience (no disrespect, just being honest) I would either leave it alone, or get an experienced eye on the boat, in the flesh, before I parted with any cash. If the fundamentals are right, then the rest will follow. Given time & patience, you will finish up with a nice first outfit.
Be prepared to put your hand in your pocket, boating isn't cheap.
If that boat is in good condition & solid, then it's worth the asking price (or less if you can get it) imho.
If it's soggy, walk away, there'll be others come along.
