Avon SR6 1997 Query
Hi, I am still on the hunt for a RIB, and are willing to commit to a 1997 SR6 that is privately on the market.
I do not know the vessel, and would welcome constructive feedback.
I have attached a small photo.
The Hypalons have been recently replaced.
The seating is not a Jockey as per photos I have conjured up from elsewhere.
I primarily want it for diving. I would appreciate knowledge on the console fixing. ie: Can it be moved forward further. I would like to afix a frame for strapping dive gear to.
The rig has twin 90's. I do not know the condition of the donks. I am prepared to fly out and commit to it, however, would like more knowledge on the boat.
Edited In: It has 120 Litre Under Floor Fuel Tank as well.
I assume it is a reasonably deep V. I do not know if the builds in the 97 is different to current SR6 designs.
Appreciate any help / feedback.
Regards,
Steve.

AVON SEARIDER OWNERS / Past Owners - HELP PLEASE
So I am told.
Unfortunately the boat sits approx 2500km away from me. I will be speaking to the owner tonight/tomorrow. I am willing to fly out to see the sucker if preliminary info checks out.
It is advertised as an Avon SR6. I can only assume the helm seat is an aftermarket, including what appears to be the rear seat as well.
This assumption is solely based on me not being able to find any other picutres of an SR6 Like it.
I would appreciate any suggestions / ideas / recommendations
Regards.

If you are looking to move the console it may well have the fuel tank underneath so this may be quite a major job. That bench seat will be useless in anything but perfect conditions for helimg from.
Other than that it looks good to me and I know that there are a few people on here that really rate those Yamaha engines as they are so light weight and reliable.
If it has new tubes as well then thats an added bonus, although I would check to see where they came from, who made them how old they are, have they started to go at any seams etc.

re: Avon SR6
Looks like I will secure it tomorrow. Flying out to do the deal subject to it being ok.
The Hypalons were professionaly fitted by Zodiac or Reps, in Australia 1 year ago. Fitted as per original specs, with the 7 chambers I believe.
Documentation with 10 years warranty.
I agree re: helm Seat, He had the original Jockey console, but preferred to refit the boat with the helm seat. Apparantly an Esky locks in under the seat. I probally will opt for a simple post with stand up back rest. This will allow me to fit a rack for standing up dive gear behind it. The rear seat was fitted but comes of easily.
The boat hull has anitfoul on it. How Hard would it be to take that off?
He had the front seat moulded into the console, and also fitted the Anchor Storage.
I would have preferred not to have the front console seat, but it will likely be to hard to cut out.
The Tank is under the floor. It is a 150l tank, not 120l Like I originally mentioned.
The boat was originally on a super yacht, and the current owner imported it from the carribean.
When I get up to the boat, I will take some snappys of it.
In case I walk away from it I can still post some pics.
Regards.

It does not look like a SR 6m to me at all.
The tubes are too pointy at the rear to be a searider.

SR6 Avon Confirmed and it is mine - all mine.
Hi ye all,
I can confirm it is an Avon SR6.
It was a tender to a super-yacht.
It had a full survey in 2000. The Jockey was ripped out for the helm seat insitu now.
The underfloor tank is actually just on 180L (40gal).
A brand new trailer - what you guys over there call a roller-coaster style. It is drive on.
The Donks are original but seem mechanically fine. Cosmetic they appear tired, because they were exposed. ther is anti-foul on lower hull.
It is in good nick.
The boat has a new full cover. The windscreen was added to buy the old owner. It folds down.
The pontoons were replaced by Zodiac Reps in Australia. The job looks well done, however, this may explain why the pontoons do not seem to have an SR6 Genuine look.
Cheers,
Steve.

Interesting comment.
I googled other seariders. It seems some are not pointy cones, and others are.
The ones around 1995 to later 1990's seem to be more pointier.
This is only a cursory look. I am sure the Searider gurus would have more in depth knowledge.
Regarding price, I picked it up for the equivalant of 7978 GBP.
Over in Oz, they are hard to get at best, and you tend to pay a premium.
So, whether it is considered a fair price over your way or not, I do not really know.
Regards.

I'd happily pay that for a SR6 in decent shape.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Hi,
OK. One Avon SR6 is mine, I bought it, and drove it back trailered the 2100 odd kms.
OK how to make a grown man "nearly" cry. - Caught the tube on a sign at a service station, blowing a chamber. Worse, only a couple of hundred Km's from home.
Luckily I painted insurance on it, and was already working out the worst, however, the good men here in my home town who work on all the avons "Surf Life Saving" said they would have it repaired in a couple of days. They have already layed the inner tube.
So, My first patch job, and I have not even got it seriously wet yet.
I am hoping it works. The only other option is for the boat to go on another road journey of some 1600kms to a Tube Builider.
I will be seeking advise in the respective forums on the electrics soon.
I have mixed emotions - however, by the end, one way or another, I am going to have an SR6, which I believe are as rare as in OZ.
The Avon dealers over here told me I got a steal, so I trust from your comments this appears to be the case.
I will get pics up once I have the boat at home.
A Landrover County 110 and an SR6 and no wife (probally because of the landy), what more could a man want parked at his home.
Funnily enough I am not even a pom.
Best Regards,

Congrats on a fine boat.
Depending on how bad the blow/tear is it is not too difficult to do yourself. Lots of advice on here if you do a search. I have done one about 4 inches (10cm) myself.

I trust you can still catch a kangaroo!
Fantastic deal you got and you are now the owner of the best 6.o mtr boat in all de wurld and particularly your Part of Oz.
Re the toob Hypalon is easy to fix. You could diisguise the repair by gluing two nameplates from hypalon on the sides of the boat
