This comes from somebody who uses thinners to clean boats. Thinners a substance designed to brake down glue, glue that holds out boats together.
Not good.

Use Fairy liquid in warm water and after rinsing it use shining type (the mat works too but for a better effect) ARMORALL!! It works 100+1% and with no side effects.
I used this treatment in all the SIBs, RIBs, fibre glass boats I had since I started and they all looked like brand new even after 10 years of use.

Air cadets, now Navy, have you got a bit of a fetish for wearing uniforms, or do you just enjoy having someone shouting at you?

When it is dry only the sealer will scatch, not the tube. I suspect that someone will tell me I do not know what I am talking about but, hey, their loss.

Bum
and i was looking forward to gettin you drunk
with this method is it best to give the tubes a get clean with something like sugar soap first or does this sealer have cleaning properties in it?
and i presume that you can just wash the sealer, without having to re-apply it?
thank you sir

You can also find this sealer at you local janitorial supplies shop (check the Yellow Pages) where it will be called something like "High solid emulsion floor polish". This will be cheaper than B&Q and while you are there you can pick up a gallon of good multi-purpose industrial cleaner. Last time I had to buy any I got 5 litres of each for under £30, and that should last several seasons.
Get your tubes clean before you seal them though, or you will just seal the dirt in! Better still, apply the sealer before they get dirty . . .
If you use detergent or sugar soap, be sure to thoroughly rinse it all off. If you use thinners (sometimes the only option) just use enough to dampen a rag and you are unlikely to see your seams unravelling.
It really is great stuff by the way, and is really easy to apply. Brings your finger nails up a treat too Apply it at the beginning of each season and you're set -- even dried on seagul shit just hoses off.

Although I'm not interested in ribs, this stuff interests me!
When the tube gets flexed, does it not "crack" the coating, or does this stuff set as a flexible layer?
Also, if you add coats over a couple of seasons, and it presumably gets to be a thick layer, can you get it off?

It sets as a shiny flexible layer. It doesn't crack, but will abrade if something rubs against it (but better than the tube wearing!).
I have found that after a season's use of the boat there isn't much sealer left on and a thorough scrubbing takes you back to clean tubes ready for anther coat.

If you can beat 50p per bottle for that heineken then I'll have it, failing that, I'm back off to the local rock club, I so love monday nights.

I'm having a good run at the moment, beer wise. hen I first went out to the RoRo and delivered some crew. Just after I cast off the Bosun attracted my attention. I looked up and he was making a hand gesture, which inicated he thought I was a Wa**er, this surprised me as I am not that bad a boat driver.
He then shouted Hustler, which again surprised me as our charges are quite reasonable. Suddenly it dawned on me that he needed some reading material of an adult type! The crew have been stuck out their for 35 days afetr all. (Whiteshoes, doesn't that remind you of the old board Joke)
So on the next trip out I delievered some magazines for the Bosun and he lowered down a few slabs of Beers. So if anyof you fancies a slab of Heinecen then just deliver a couple of Dirty Mags to one of the Big Ships anchored off the Isle of White.
Anyway I am going to try the stuff out so I'd best give Alan a slab.

Just to let you know he was so hung over he fell asleep on my sofa while Clive and the rest of us went for a walk.
He was even shaky about having a beer at lunch time.

Alan,
Going to try this on our Ribcraft. Slightly nervous that we are constantly pulling divers in and out of the water across the tubes. In your opinion, will this scuff the sealant off the tubes, and if so, will the scuffed area look more unsightly than the current, slightly faded, tubes?
Thanks
David

It will scuff the sealant off after a while, but it's really quick and easy to reapply some more sealer over the affected area (easier to fix than scuffed or faded tubes!).
