Cheers-what I was thinking is...

If oxalic acid removes yellowing and the yellowing is caused by rust staining, is the rust staining going to penetrate through flowcoat eventually?

I'm hoping your reply is the same as I'm thinking-that it won't.

Ok, just flowcoated one of the jockey seats and the result is truly appalling.

It's got huge brushmarks all over it.the flowcoat I ordered was far thicker than any I've previously used.

Is it feasable to sand out the brushmarks and recoat/resand then polish it?

Yes, but I hope you enjoy rubbing down, because it is a lot of work to get it right!
You can dilute the flowcoat with styrene, as all the guides I have read state. Seemed to work alright for me I've even heard some say they have used acetone to dilute it, but I have not tried that.
If I have to rub down flowcoat I have found it useful to wash the flow coat down with acetone first, to get off the majority of the wax. At the very least it will stop the wet and dry clogging quite so quickly.

Nos... sand it flat with 60 grit, roll on three coats of gel, in the last coat add wax and flat back and polish.

I'm now thinking I might just sideline that jockey seat (I've got 3, but only 2 are going back in).However, it won't hurt to have a go at it..

Why not sand and prep one end of tue one you have already done and use it as a practice are before doing the other two?

I was actually thinking of trying to get the other 2 back to white without using flowcoat-they aren't as bad as the one I did is, but they do need attention.

However, now the despondency of the one I've done looking like crap has worn off a bit I'll probably sand and finish it off before I try and de-yellow the others.If I can get a decent finish on it, I'll be a bit more amenable to the idea of doing another one

Ok, what am I doing wrong here? Went to B&Q and bought a 5m roll of 60 grit for the Bosch sander.

Every time I fit it to the sander, I get about 20/30 seconds of sanding done and it breaks the sandpaper off on the corners.


I think it might be time to start using a sanding block again instead of being lazy...

Iv been having exactly the same problem, its just too coarse, the stuff on the roll has been lasting slightly longer, but iv been using the velcro pads on one of the sanders instead, but its a bit expensive

I've got a 50mm fuel filler. The hose between the tank and the filler is Vetus exhaust hose.

Is it ok to use, or should I go and buy some proper 50mm fuel hose?
