The overhang is mainly to cover the drives, allow the exhaust to flow away from the transom and to look good.
the steps mould. the steps on the hull are vented by rebates behind the step although these are different heights and handed at the ends, they are the same radius and profile. The moulding taken off that mould will fit all four step vents, so I only have to do all the rubbing and polishing once on an external curve on the bench rather than four times on an internal curve on top of the boat.

did you buy the cladding aswell precut or are you doing that yourself?
doing a similar project myself with a workboat - contemplating using jim more designs for a complete plug kit, am interested to see how yours comes along
