That's all for now - more to follow

JW - We got a pretty good finish except one or two areas where it is much easier to get a perfect finish in the mould because of access.

You're welcome any time!

Whats a "Sloper"?!

Rigid rear end (or plunger?) and telescopic forks? What year/model? <edit> With the help of the Google almighty, I'm going for early '50s Model 100?

Can't remember the time period of those photos but the whole project from concept to launching the finished boat was around 2 years - however we are still making changes and will continue to evolve the boat over some period of time.

More photos now!

We made a poly tunnel to keep the dust out for spraying the hull plug with high build paint. Then followed a lot of “long boarding” to get a really smooth line to the hull and making some small detail changes.

Hull mould all layed up and ready for the stiffening – shuttering ply and balsa was used for all of the moulds. Kitten about to fit the transom stiffening

Now the dis-assembly begins! Removing the “tray” mould first and turning it over

Finished tray mould and plug side by side and the hull plug removed leaving the hull mould released. We always float hulls out of the mould where possible – it’s more gentle on both parts and makes life easy – We release the bow slightly, just enough to get a hosepipe in and let the water do the work.

The three main moulds covered up – the hull, floor or tray mould and the console/foredeck moulds. Gelling the hull mould, tilting moulds make it easier

First matt is on the hull and the gellcoat is being applied to the Tray mould – the light green parts are “plants” which allow us to make parts that have returns on them – they come out with the part and are remove after the part is released.

More matt has been applied to the hull and Tray moulds. Stiffening is also being added here.

Turning the tray mould over for test fitting into the hull – clearances have to be worked out before the moulds are started so that everything fits well at this stage – too much clearance means wasted space and extra packing as well as a loss of stiffness.

Foam stiffening has been made for the hull and glassed in, then the tray mould is fitted back into the hull
