If I had 500 grand in my pocket it wouldn't be there long

Couldn`t resist that. I agree that most of the comments towards Grylls are borne out of jealousy. He strikes me as e decent family man. And lucky to be getting paid to do some great adventures.
However it does annoy me a bit the way they push the SAS bit.
There is a considerable difference between 22 & 23 SAS. (info from a reliable source)
Anyway let`s talk rib`s!

I'm sure that your cousin's boyfriend will be tickled that his girlfriend's cousin has just announced on the www that he's special forces.

Steady on lads!
Never said TA aren`t doing a sterling job in Afganistan!
Just saying there`s a difference between 22 SAS and 21 &23 TA units.
My "reliable source" tells me Bear Grylls was with 21 and not 23. He was with them for 3 yrs. 18 months of which he couldn`t train due to a parachuting accident.
Reliable source say 18 months of weekends and a few exercises doesn`t qualify you to claim ex SAS.
He also says Chris Ryan was 22 sas by the time of Bravo Two Zero (apparantly he left TA and joined regulars).
Apologies if i`ve upset any TA, sas, TV Presenters etc. Apologise also for non rib related post.
Rib only posts from me from now on!

Its always the same on here. Every time someone who has made a success out of doing what most people on here would love to do you get two reactions.
Jealous "Chip on your Shoulder" types having a pop becuase they know they will never be able to do the same mainly because they can't be arsed to.
And then some of us who think, like me, whats wrong with having someone like Bear Grylls around. Makes a good role model for kids to look up to, makes good money for doing stuff that I would love to (apart from eating worms).
Compare someone like Bear Grylls to one of those fecking brainless, overpaid footballers that are supposed to be an inspiration to kids when they are not shagging whores and living their sickeningly wastefull lifestyles.
I know who my kids will be encouraged to watch on telly

In the early days BG was doing an Atlantic crossing and he he claimed many firsts associated with the trip which Alan Priddy had already completed, and in the process put down a favourite of the forum - it hasn't gone well from there really ..............
And for those with a sense of humour .............

I agree, there's far worse people out there.
Plus a friend met him in a shop in abersoch only a month or so ago with his little 3 month old. He said Bear was really friendly to him and everyone else in the shop that spoke to him and posed for a photo with him and his little boy. Many celebs (footballers) wouldnt bother or may even ask for the shop to be shut while they look around.
Can't see he has done that much against anyone has he?.

Bear Grylls
For the record, I don't know much about him, other than that his name sounds like an Inuit Picnic (and he can't help that). The lads who did the RIB work with him here said that he was a top lad. I haven't seen his TV work so wasn't judging - they do sound like they're aimed at kids so maybe not meant to be taken too seriously.
I just don't wear Celeb Branded apparel

<enter rant mode>
Ooh dear! this is getting a bit fractious. Just for the record I do not know nor ever have I met Mr Grylls in person, all I know is what I see. It is his & his ilks general broadcasting style that really pi55e5 me off. Everything must be a drama & near death experience to make it interesting. not! How come David Attenborough, Michael Palin, Ray Mears et al. can present an inteligent program on just about any subject & be engaging & affable without being so melodramatic? It's got to the stage where I can't watch a diving program now with the sound turned up, due to some twonk commentator stating that so & so must now ascend from 25m as her oxygen tank is about to run out, or he might suffer a deadly attack of the bends... Bo11ocks. I think the main problem with these overdramatised programs, is that the basic subject matter is BORING to the casual observer & to stretch what should be a 10 minute short into an hour long docudrama, it has to be dressed up. Take diving for instance (which I've done a bit of) It's basically 3 hours of tedium followed by 1/2 hour of sphincter clenching followed by 3 hours of boredom, try making an hour program out of that
Anyway, rant over, I feel better now. I'm off to a darkened room for an hour
