Yeah! & going on Mr Grylls previous history on these "heroic" quests, he was probably airlifted off every night to spend the night on a luxury yacht, sleeping between silk sheets being fed larks tongues by dusky virgin attendants

I've never quite figured out the hero-worship thing with these "quests". Like most I'd love to do a trip like that but as for the hero, he appears to have been a passenger on a boat that he wasn't driving, didn't design and doesn't own, accompanied by a support ship, all of which I expect somebody else was paying for anyway.
Errr .... I could do that where do you apply, sounds like fun

He very occassionally posts on here so maybe he'll respond! Of course his real talent/skill is in presenting TV etc - something we all think is easy but actually is quite skilled.

I've previously rejected his shirts for the same reason - I thought I was just a cranky old git. No doubt others are proudly sporting theirs down the boozer...

Why does everybody here hate Bear Grylls? So what if he's got support when doing his trips and TV programmes; it's only meant as entertainment. Most of us are weekend warriors ourselves and you wouldn't catch me doing half the things he's done. And you have to admit, that one fly looking rib they've got there.

If I was him I'd certainly ignore any thread where people (who have probably never even met me) are throwing abuse about. I don't watch his programmes having endured one and found it the usual TV sensationalism - but I've no opinion of the guy.

Jealousy? Because we have to pay for our toys and earn a living "the hard way" whilst he gets paid for playing around. We like to convince ourselves that the reason we don't do the same thing is because of our "higher standard" when in actual fact its no one has (or is likely to) offer us money!

I think that's it in a nutshell! I like the guy's programmes to be honest and I like Ray Mears' as well.

Having met him several times when he arrived with his whole family to go Ribbing, I found he was a not the man many people paint of him, a gent and very friendly, Well done to the whole team who completed the run.

To be fair, the support ship was necessary as one of the crew was a high flying businessman type and he couldn't get life insurance cover without it!

Good points! I dont know why everyone seems to have a go at the guy,Ex S.A.S[Unarmed combat instructor amongst other things] Youngest person to climb Everest,a massive feat in anyone' book! or maybe he had back up!!Ha! seems to me its all too easy to knock someone out there doing the buisness, who does have the credentials to back it up!
There is enough crap on the TV,and you maynot enjoy the format of his 'SHOWS' but at least he gives the kids a decenct alternative to all the the negative role models out there, and whats more shows them, and alot of adults an alternative to sitting on thier arse's and frying thier brains with computer games!
Who amongst you if you are HONEST wouldnt like to have done A HALF of what he's done??!
I say Well done chap!and Power to your elbow!

I'd love to do loads of the stuff - ok admittedly not the hiking up a mountain thing (did that in my geology degree, never again, if you can't get to the top in a Land Rover either use a helicopter or go somewhere else) but it must be a blast to spend your life being paid to do things that most people have to pay for and therefore yes I am jealous
Presenting TV ... happy to admit I couldn't do it and I am too ugly to be on tv anyway. I suppose as an avid viewer of Top Gear I can hardly criticise the reality element either
I draw the line at buying the clothing though

I sense some real pent up anger here. Forget about the actor for a minute. Last time I checked this was "RIB"net. Did anyone happen to notice what kind of boat made this passage? Kudos to the captain and crew! Thinking about building one of those hydraulic tilty cabin things on the old SR
