Best coastal UK holiday spots....
In a similar vein to other threads....
There must be loads of little known but cracking holiday spots with secluded beach, mooring or launching, pub....er.... oh and shops within easy travelling distance (for 'er indoors) around the UK.
I've spent all my life going to Abersoch, N Wales (which I love), where should I take the family next year? If you could narrow it down to a specific location, that would be great...
Come on, I can keep a secret.....
ps I've done Salcombe too.

Of course it all depends on weather but the Pembroke/Tenby/Saundersfoot area takes some beating - does get rather busy though!!!
There are stunning beaches - old castles - pretty little towns - a great theme park - childrens theme parks etc.
Loads of cheap little guest houses and caravan parks to stay.
Even better it is a boating paradise - around St Davids there are LOADS of rib trips running - not suprising considering they have spotted schools of 2000 dolphins - fin whales and now even leatherback turtles. Also a new record Blue shark has just been caught - 10' long!!!

Forgot to mention Milford Haven as well - massive harbour and you can travel up the rivers for miles - 300' deep in places!!! There are loads of nice pubs etc - many with their own pontoons!!!

What's camping, launching and parking for a week at a time like in Salcombe? We were tempted to go down either there or Fowey for a week next year.

Sorry, Rich, we're not taking any more holiday makers on Anglesey and the Britannia and Menai Bridges are shut to non-residents until further notice. You'd hate it anyway - no traffic jams, no shopping and low chav headcount. No, best try elsewhere, mate. Thought about Clacton?

Salcombe is lovely - but busy - and very difficult to park (but then that was school holidays). Lots of hills & very picturesque. We stayed in self catering and rented a mooring (most of which are semi drying for small vessels ) which combined with my little tender worked well. Pity we had to work round the tides though.
They have a very accessible all tides slip in the town.

Cool-is that the slip on Fore street? I seem to remember it being awful narrow on the way to that one but my memories of Salcombe are clouded by being a yachtie at the time and coming ashore after crossing Lyme bay. What sort of price was the mooring for the week?

No, Batson Creek slip is round the back of the town, is wide and easily accessable. Check out boatlaunch.co.uk for details.
Can't remember the mooring fees but the harbour master will.
Cookie (lives in Salcombe) & Nick Hearne (who goes there all the time) are good people to talk to.

I know that we keep banging on about it and if you all turn up it'll be mayhem, but you will have to find something really special to beat the Fal. (see Roycruse's listing on "Where to take a rib?" thread). There is nowhere in the southwest that comes close. It's worth going the extra mile.

May i suggest Dartmouth, accessible slip at all tides, trailer parking directly opposite and good pubs up the river. I'm sure you've probably already been here though!

Between Fowey & Falmouth got it all for the family, plus launching on it's own beach

Did 2 weeks in Salcombe this summer. launched every day. Slip is thye best I have ever used, although things do get frantic particularly during regatta weeks. Boat Park staff are really friendly and helpful although storing a rib of more than 6 metres would be difficult. The parking spaces are set up for smallish sailing dinghys
The cruising is fab with Plymouth and Dartmouth less than an hour away (flat out!!)
PS Watch out for the local Yawl crews they are ba*^"!?s on the slipway
Hope this helps
Andrew
