Had you been on the JD when you decided to buy a Humber?

Can of worms & tin-opener.......
I'd say balancing all the original criteria, size, range, speed, cost sea-keeping ability - and I'd add comfort / ride and ease of handling / launch and fun, it would be hard to beat a RC585 with a 140.
SR strong contender, but much wetter (that may be the fun)
Everyone will have different "fun" criteria

585 and SR4
Thought so.
Still, completely different boats. Engines not mentioned yet.

IMO, there's an awful LOT to be said for a decent SIB (note the word decent, lots of lightweights out there, both physically and metaphorically).
Love my RIBs, and different horses for different courses, but I always have a massive grin on my face after a spin on the D Class.... such a versatile boat, will take a big sea /surf..... and probably the most versatile (as well as SIGNIFICANTLY cheapest) of my boats..... By your criteria.....gets my vote

Had a number of SIBS including the venerated bombard 380 (still have 2 SIBS), cruisers and RIBs (incl RC585 and my current Ribeye 785s) but my favourite boat of them all was my Ribcraft 480 with a 60hp 4 stroke. Fantastic fun.

D Class. There's a lot to be said for that.
Zodiacs seem to be missing.

My ideal is a 4-5m with 90 Evinrude, aluminium hull, hypalon, jockey seats for 3. 100 litres fuel. Roller trailer.
