Cider or Cidre?
Folks, thanks for all your responses...
Granted, the budget of 5k is limited in the extreme but it's good enough starting point for my purposes, being mindful of potential running costs.Stumbled across a good looking Humber in Northern Ireland with twin Yamaha 60's on my online travels...old but good for 25% on top of the budget...
Yes, was away in the aether for a while there...and cider is not the reason (this time).
Will shout back later in the week

Fear, you say?
Not fear, merely slumbering. Continued the hunt on another (in)famous website in the meantime, turned up an interesting Humber with twin 60's....initial budget in need of some radical revision.

This one's to Henry Freston
...just getting back online today since posting initial query. Sound advice, don't believe I've ever set foot on an Avon Sea Rider so have no idea of their charms or pitfalls.
Cheers

this one's to BoristheBold...
Just back on the site today...Cheers for reply Boris, debt is certainly not worth it, boatshare opportunities here are seemingly not an option unfortunately and as for doer-uppers not a chance. I can tie a few old knots and helm a boat, boat DIY one of those lethal passtimes for me hahaha. I'll simply need to increase the budget or accept dreaming as a safe alternative.

Ok dokes Willk,
Thanks for swift reply...plenty to mull over here for sure.
Was saying to another poster that the budget obviously needs some revision,
and located a Humber with twin Yamaha 60's for sale nearby...this might just tick all the boxes except budget, no real idea on their fuel consumption with a load onboard.
Yep, i'm in Moville, North East Inishowen.

Nos4r2,
Thanks for reply, that "what to steer clear of!" is really helpful, so cheers.
With a bit of a push on the budget, Humber seems to be taking pole position.
For now. This is going to be a lengthy decision/compromise process I think.

Poly, thanks for reply.....surprised in a good way with the responses,
so fair dues to you all.
How did you know? You're not wrong about cider...the budget was 60% stronger last year, unlike the cider, due to the vagaries of modern life. Which tells you everything and nothing at the same time hoho
Had to change the idea of taking 6 adults as it simply meant robbing banks as a career change....dream territory only. I'm in no rush to run and spend wildly on a pile of garbage either so thought I'd put it to the enthusiasts, pro's and semi pros alike.
This very basic budget could be stretched a little for the right craft, I would think. Safety and good seakeeping ability first, decent reliable engine then some manageable fuel consumption -if that's not a total contradiction in terms for some of the less-than-new 2strokes. For sure I don't have to take 4 lifesizer's out every time, but it'll happen at some point. 2 adults and 2 short-arses, most of the time yes. Less talk, more do is the order of the day.

HO, Just beware - you are in prime "Scam" territory. A "bargain" boat will come along, and might be quite far away, and they will offer to deliver (with all sorts of B.S. about money back guarantees etc). Don't send money anywhere till you have physically seen the goods in person. Of course that might mean a noticable %age of your budget is spent on travel and tyre kicking before you even find the dream boat!

Very good advice from poly, lots of boat scams out there. Be careful and don't get scammed.

Ribs under 5k....Poly, Chris
Poly/Chris,
Yep, I would agree and remain v. mindful of that but no real fears there,
unless my the eventual surveyor is an utter scam artist then I'm totally screwed -some might say they are just that but could be hearsay?
(In my book, most rational fear to be placed with engines...and those jagged, hardy things that sometimes grow in water....rocks, that's right)
Catch up with all y'awl later

+1 our initial thoughts of what we might get for our money turned out to be hopelessly wide of the mark once we got used to what's a scam and what's not. For example: anything on Boats and Outboards with 1 pic and no region is a scam.

Henry,
That's an interesting item...RIB is a cracker and looks to be in excellent nick. Engine size? Would tend to think 115+ HP more suited to that craft, again depending on load?
You are right on the money, Sir....shame she's over the water.

Mr Chowder,
Well, I always expect more from the sellers market than it can bear!
Been working the web for quite a while now and you certainly pick up few dead-giveaways in adverts like the one you mentioned...plenty others cited on the forums here too which is great...multiple selling of same item (+ multiple personalities of sellers), continual postponement of viewing times/dates, certain payment types, poor phrasing/grammarerererr and location. I'd personally run a mile from anyone selling trailered/stilted craft in a landlocked area but can run pretty fast for my size! HenryFreston's sent a good example of a vessel that would tickle my scantlings...dunno about that particular engine HP for it...I wonder what kind of safe load can you comfortably push on your Humber 5m with the 85 before she lets you know?

Well... My 5.4m Searider starts to feel sluggish with 3 large adults aboard.
I reckon that Tornado is a 5.8m and I'd want an absolute minimum of 115hp on it.

Reckon so, 140HP feels fine when weighted fairly on a 6.1m hull...
No idea for 5.85m. Future trials necessary

*140 on an oldish Redbay 6.1m with 'slightly' more than might be considered an ideal load at the time that is...can't say she handled well on turns at speed either. Allegedly, no expert mind.
