BIBOA is IMHO a club for bigger ribs
If you want to cross the channel or get to Aldnerney with people who have a wealth of exsperience go racing and longer trips then its the club.
If you are poodling about in the solent in a 4.5mt S.I.B then i would not recommend it. But i agree with whats been said.Dont knock it if you havnt tried it.
And its not the Scorpion owners club, but then you would not know that because you have not been on a cruise.

by local i would mean not south coast but nw england scotland ireland
for the clyde week we tend to get people joining for a day or 2. Last (2009) year 14 ribs said they were coming 6 new cruisers thru ribnet the others from previous cruises only 1 new ribnet member came
the rib sizes were 7.5 6.8 6.0 6.0 5.6 5.8 5.8 5.8 and hot lemon 10m 4 local (counting Bern as local) 4 european 1 south coast
for the west coast cruise there were 7 ribs 3 local 3 european 1 south coast
i think for local scotish boats it is so easy to get on the water and you are able to choose your weather etc. whereas on an organised cruise the weather could be shit (usually is) and to a large extend local ribs have already been to the places

Thanks Doug. I have over the years momitored your cruises but times did not fit as they say. I take your points re weather and familiarity of locations as I have been to some of the places. I would hope sometime to catch up with you on the water if you are ever up Loch Sween/Sound of Jura way and maybe we could involve the 'locals'.

I joined - then left quickly - mainly due to Roy completely putting me off - I think its a real shame that there is not a stronger acceptance of smaller RIBs. As Chewy has said though RIBnet has offered so much more, a real mix of people and RIBs and no elitist feel to it (even if this is not actual with BIBOA if very much feels like it)

I do intend to pop along to one of their sessions in the Summer - just to see if I'm right -and I really hope not as they seem to have a great time when they do get together

Just to close this one down - blimey - I read the "infamous" thread too.

I sent an email to BIBOA earlier today requesting some details. As yet no response.

I did mention 6.5m in my email..................(pretend this is a wink smiley!)

Not sure the subject is closed yet though! BIBOA have a problem and frankly, I think it's their name. It grates the way "British Isles" grates over here. Imagine if one started a club called British Classic Automobile Association and then ran outings that required motorway travel over 200 miles stretches in convoy at 75mph. Gonna trim the prospective membership down to the Jags and a few more types. Not so many Morris Minors...

Why not simply call it British Classic Prestige Automobile Association and have done?

Completely agree - it was why I was so disappointed when I actually did join (for a short time!) the name implies collectiveness but its very far from it - I have no beef with groups for specialised gatherings etc (I'd be the first to join a Searider one ) - just don't imply by the name you are for everyone when clearly you are not
