to be fair, if it is the boat i think it is, it and another one havent moved in years. The versadock is now empty so i think thats it. Leaves me wondering if the owner will even notice or care and in which case what will happen at high water later on today!

About a year ago I put a switchover panel and a diesel genny on my house, it runs the lot and you would never know, matey next door has no power but I'm ok, 100 ft lead over the fence has sorted his freezers out

Well after all that wind at least I now know how strong my boat cover is - 68 mph strong
At one point last night we did wonder if we should remove it incase it got ripped off - but then I figured we were past the point of no return. If we had have started to remove it we would have been blown away ourselves. So we left it and every hour or so looked out the window anxiously.
All fine now. But I think next time I may take it off just to avoid a whole evening of wondering.

I'm not quite as technical, I just flick the master switch off and put a lead from the genny to a 3 pin socket it the house.

That'll be a "lead of death" then the one with a 3 pin plug on either end

Same here, 12kva Kubota feeding directly into the main board via a changeover switch. I've wired a 240v buzzer into an auxiliary contact on the "mains" side, so when the mains power comes back on, it lets me know. Fortunately no neighbours to upset help out so don't need the extn. leads

Well that is an interesting question. It should float at about 3pm and then, if no one has claimed it i guess it is going to float off down river...
Same happened round the corner after the storm about a month ago when a grotty old pontoon and a knackered cabin cruiser were on the beach for a bit!!

Thats the problem! Its not at a marina unfortunately. It is moored on a pontoon behind an unoccupied house (as far as we can tell). There is a wreck (just wooden shell) and yellow rib and this one that was on the versadock. Not seen anyone near them in ages. Its by riverside park by the cobden bridge in Bitterne Park but no idea who's it is.
Have considered sticking a bit of rope on it and tying it to something to give the owner a bit more time but not really anything about. To get to anything solid crosses the foot path!
Am keeping an eye and if it drifts might try and grab it and tie it to something but our own rib is in the dry stack so cant go out to it!!

You sure the whole house can run on 13A?
I have the boiler (a combi) now fed through a 13A plug - It means when the power goes out I can keep the gas powered boiler running. " showers - one off the boielr, the other 'leccy, so washing isnlt a problem. Lights are sorted by various oil lamps & battery camping lanterns. A 2 - way adaptor and the fridge keeps going although I don't normally bother with that until the power has been off for about 4 hrs or so, by which point the fridge door will have been opened a few times.....
As for the telly not getting power? - it's the best way of stopping X factor I know of!

No not he whole house, just a few standard lamps and the heating pump. Showers are mains pressure from the biomass so no need for power there. The range cooker is gas.
We can actually live quite comfortably with just a few lights.
I never use sensitive electronics such as tv, sky etc when running genny power.

That makes more sense!
We got a 'leccy cooker, so just pul out the camping stoves if it is that bad.
