Us Seadogs just got back from 2 weeks in the south of France near St Tropez where we stayed in an idealic location called Port Grimaud (mentioned elsewhere on here in the archives) otherwise known as "little Venice" with its narrow streets and canals.
Thoroughly recommend the area for a family holiday as it's a sailing mecca, the weather was very hot, reaching 40 deg C on the journey, and on most days we took the rib out simply to cool down in the sea breeze. The only downside was the travelling, especially in mad August through France. We took 2 days each way stopping overnight in Dijon, still managing nearly 2000 miles overall with the trailer in tow at a sensible speed. Still, car and trailer did very well.
Whilst there we took in a lot of the bays and beaches and particularly enjoyed Pampelonne beach where we moored just yards from the sun kist bare bikini's. Also enjoyed jumping off our rib and swimming around in the clear blue open water - something we have hardly done in this country for fear of frost bite! We definitely needed the bimini up though when getting out the sea as otherwise it was just too hot.
Best of all, in St Tropez when we asked the Capitainerie where he would like to moor us he put us alongside the superyachts. Wondering how much they might be paying to be paraded along the port I asked him how much for our 5m and he said it was free for a couple of hours. We couldn't believe it. If only Cowes and Yarmouth would follow this trend...
We also hopped along the coast in the car to Monaco to see a fireworks evening only to get drenched in a mistral storm but what cars...
Anyone else manage to get away from our weather this summer?
