would love black hull, but this is an existing boat with new tubes. Would also worry bout black hull for showing damage and osmosis resistance etc. They do look ace though

i cant remember exactly but i thought any pigment increases chance of osmosis (even white) but black was worse due to more coloring.... i also have an idea black or darker colours inhibit which can cause undercure... does that not decrease water resistance and cause blistering??

damn i knew i should have listened more

It's certainly the case that if you over pigment with black it slows the cure a bit but I dont think it actually prevents it. I've used black a lot and it takes very little pigment to make a solid colour. The pigments I've found to be the thinnest are yellow and orange. If laminating, rather than over pigmenting or using too thick a gel, I slightly pigment the following couple of laminate layers to ensure there is no see through. I know it's considered back practice because you can't see the detail of your laminating but if it's a light pigment I've found no difficulty.

Anyway, I've had two black hulls and they are excellent because they don't show the filth that is inevitable on a rib hull, inside and out. Up here, the deck becoming too hot in the sun isn't a problem but it certainly could be in a sunnier climate. A white deck is going to look scruffy almost immediately and you're going to need shades when the sun is out. I'll no doubt get shot down about that comment.

we have always run black/black here with no problems and it doesnt show the mud and sand etc. The only other colours we have had apart from our original searider in obligatory grey/orange was white hull&decks with yellow consol and tubes, with grey strakes and wear patches. Looked nice clean but didnt stay clean long here with our rise and fall of tide and associated sh..! -sorry mud! A white hull is easy to find some gelcoat filler for if you ding it, black aint so easy.
