Any recomendations for a boarding ladder? Theres not enough room to put one on the transom next to the engine.
Thanks Paul

Emergency ones are pretty robust. Could be worth considering if your not planning on any heavy use.

Is it for the 4m? You might consider a simple L shaped drop down pole with a teak/mahog. step on the bottom. You really only need a "foot up" onto a wee boat...
You could use it as a flag pole when in the upright position

As you say there isn't a lot of room on a RIB Transom for the normal type of fold down ladder.
My soulution was to narrow the ladder by cutting several inches out of the middle and welding it back together.
It's just wider than required for one foot, and makes getting in the boat much easier.
The smaller Nashers use it more than me and find it really useful.
Nasher.

Nasher - that's a really neat ladder and the perfect solution, definite gap in the market there. What ladder model was it to start with?

Cheers Nasher - I'll PM you when I've had a measure up - do you have to drill the transom or can it be 'slotted over'?

Just let me know when.
You do need to drill the transom unfortunately, for both the top and bottom mounts.

Could you plug the ends of the bottom stand off tubes and have these bear against the transom, rather than fixing them?
I had a boarding ladder on a RIB once that had this arrangement. Still got the ladder somewhere, I think.

Was thinking that myself - loath to drill the transom. And at the top could you have a clamp on arrangement or even 'interferance fit' by padding out with a fitting of some sort - guessing most of the strain is taken on the face against the outer transom anyway?
Nasher - nicked a pic of yours as it is clearer here - can you PM me details of the ladder (ie your price etc)?

Perhaps you could 'recycle' the saddle from an old outboard motor and fix the ladder to the tilt pin/tube.
It would look crap though.

If you supply a ladder I wasn't thinking of charging you to cut and weld it, although a pint of Guiness on one of our cruises goes down well.
It's an hours work which I'd gladly do one weekend whilst you wait. The ladders come up on ebay quite often if you keep an eye out.
The bottom mounts only have a reasonable size screw in the middle, they don't go all the way through.
If you can imagine a top hat shaped section with a hole through the centre, that is screwed to the transom with a blob of sealant behind it then the tube is slipped over the top and a small stainless steel bolt put through sideways to clamp it to the top hat shaped piece.
It needs to be firmly fixed as there is a lot of leaverage on it as you haul yourself on board.
Nasher
