Boat Insurance

Thanks to all who have replied. I don't know what my quote for this year is , but last year was circa 370 yo yo's (Euro) so obviously not too bad by all accounts. It did exclude leaving on the water overnight and the trailer has to be chained to an unremovable point even though its garaged. I recall a pal of mine getting UK insurance for a couple of hundred pounds.

When the quote comes through, and I check out the other players, I'll post the results to the forum

Policies I've seen specify that craft must not be left unattanded unless on a non-tidal fixed mooring.

Anybody tried Bishop Skinner RYA/RNLI Advantage Scheme?

If my memory serves me correct, for 260 smacker i get;

*Full legal cover (useful if you doing safety cover and some muppet decides to go for the orange target!)
*Insured wherever I want provided wheel clamp fitted or when on the water, must be chained to mooring/pontoon
*Certain named gismos insured on or off the boat up to £1,000
*Personal kit to the value of £500
*Engine £8,500
*Hull £3,000
*Trailer £1,000
*and the excess of £250 (yeah I know bit of a kick in the balls!)

They are one of the bigger yacht brokers and I`ve heard no bad stories about them.

Word of warning though, the cheapest quote doesn't necessarily mean the best cover!

I asked to leave it on a swing mooring at Bembridge for july and August so that in the water

I rang around a bit-porthcawl,bishop skinner,marden amongst others,12800 insured value,kept out of water when not in use-235 with r p horson,no waterski cover,would not cover in a marina without a tonneau cover so I opted to waiver the sinking and swamping cover when in a marina(i week in summer)

Well, Finally managed to get the boat and bits insured again. Total value E30,000 for E360. E3,000,000 public liability, Coastal waters use and dry stored (secured) with E317 Excess.

Planning a trip to wales shortly, they have agreed to extend the cover for the period to offshore and moored afloat......at NO extra cost. Who said insurance men were not nice people !!

I heard a rumour that an insurance company in one country in the EU cannot/will not insure you if you live in a diferent country? (Any type of insurance).
Huh? Thought that was what the Common Market was all about?
Anyone comment?

Two of my friends have UK based insurance on their boats and they quoted for my boat also ( they were not at the races price wise though )
