Boating in Antarctica… could it be for you?

I’m currently down at 67° South, living, working, and boating at Rothera — the British Antarctic Survey’s (BAS) largest research station.

We’re out nearly every day, often multiple times per day. Our four RIBs (two Humbers and two Island RIBs) support diving, scientific instruments and recreation. Our boating area is several miles across, with icebergs, glaciers, and mountains all part of its regular scenery. Not to mention wildlife — including penguins, whales, and seals.

BAS is currently recruiting for my role, with the contract commencing in August, and likely deployment in late 2025. It’s an overwintering role, meaning all things being equal, you’d be here for 15 months — not a small commitment!

Feel free to ask any questions — I’ll endeavour to get back to you without undue delay!
