Does anyone know how to find out the date of this in advance.

I have been watching the Island Sailing Club web site for several months, looked just last week and they still had a "2018 date to be announced" statement. Looked again today only to see that it happened a few days ago?

Do they deliberately try to limit spectators?

I was in exactly the same situation, been wanting to attend for the past couple of years but not been able to due to weather, delays, other conflicts, etc.

So this year I've been patiently waiting and watching the club sites for announcements only to see on the TV news that it happened Sunday morning.

I think it was really early in the morning this year, something like 0530 hrs or thereabouts. A bit early for most!

Its always early, not exactly my favourite time of the day but have been wanting to go for ages so would put up with the inconvenience. Oh well there's always next year.

Sometimes held on an evening low tide. Although the morning low tides are almost always just that little bit lower!
