As for ending up dead on Brighton Beach - yuk - I once had the awful misfortune of finding a chap who had very sadly committed suicide several days earlier from the Pier - which in itself was bad - but he was very dead - think chomping fish and crabs - and I found him at 3am in the morning having spent a girlie night out in the town - have never sobered up so fast in my life.

The girl who I was walking home with had been watching "That's Life" which had been running a campaign on how lives could be saved if everybody knew how to do mouth to mouth resuscitation - can you imagine!!!. I was holding her off the chap with one hand as in her drunken state she thought she could save him and with the other hand holding his shirt as the tide was trying to take him back out - after what seemed an eternity (probably no more than 5 minutes!!) a huge number of police arrived and sorted it all out.

So if an EPIRB can save me from ending up the same way I think it's a cracking buy

McMurdo Fastfind 210 406 Mhz GPS PLB

Hi there, sorry to come in so late, but I was just waiting to see which of my suppliers would crack first and since there was no hurry, it seemed sensible not to get peoples hopes up. Anyway I can offer the Fastfind for £195 inc P&P for UK delivery. I have a few other bulk orders for UK delivery so there is no great hurry.

Also for any BIBOA members there is I believe a New Years jolly in the pipeline, but as I sit here on Alderney I can see the snow sitting on the cliffs of France and know that even though my rib is still in the water I might want to wait for a little more warmth before kicking off across the channel. So hats off to Malthouse for his recent day return to the north island.

Mind you, it was a very much hats on occasion.

FWIW I think 195.00 all in is a great price, not sure I can see ay of the LIBS guys going down to say 185/190? Which I guess is what is needed to make it worth all of the leg work and distributing them back out.

Don't forget that VAT will be back up by the time LIBS is on, which is another fiver down the swanny.

Mainbrayce - that's cracking thank you - I'm still waiting on two other RIBnet members to come back from their hunt and once I have those options in we can make a decision

Really appreciated - thank you very much

Just to let you guys know that when I visited Port Solent Marine Superstore this afternoon I asked about a group discount of 15 units and was told they would discount a further 5% off the marked price.

Don't want to throw a spanner in here but maybe people should look at the thread Crotch Straps and lifejacket lights before finally committing to buying?

eg;

"I been told its a too common to find a life jacket with a body attached under it, the reason given is lack of crotch strap.

A Spay Hood is essential too if your going to be in the water for any length of time, since when you adopt the HELP postion, ( Cross Legs and bent knees) your body will actually turn towards the waves, and this can be uncomfortable at the least or causes drowning/secondary drowning. Spray hood protects you airways and helps to prevent this.

A life jacket light is essential if you plan to go out in the night or in dusk, if your go over board at night you will find it very hard to be seen without one!

Like wise day/night flares are very useful. to have on your person

The PLB is not the end all solution, but is a part of solution,

I personally waited till i had my personal protection, lifejacket + crotch strap + light - spray hood + vhf and day/night flares aswell as my Hand held VHF radio, before buying a PLB. No point of rescue services finding my dead body!

I would strongly suggest anybody to take the 1 day Sea Survival Course, its very informative, you get a chance to experience wearing your life jacket in a controlled environment.

To be honest it would be a good Team building Exercise for the RIBnet members to do. I organised one via SeaSkills for the sailing club and it was great exhausting work. "

Am excellent point, well made.

Toys/gadgets are one thing, but cart & horse should be got in the right order.

I would draw attention to this thread: http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33600

As a discussion point, possible priorities for safety gear...

1) Auto Lifejacket

2) Waterproof handheld VHF clipped to person

3) Crotch strap

4) Spray hood

5) Sea survival course

6) Pocket flare(s) on person

7) PLB

Re-arrange to taste

It could be said that they are responding to a request for quotes, in the same way as Marine Super Store are represented here by links etc.

Mind you I would say that as I am not currently a trade member either.

Is it me or is a 5% discount - not really much at all nowadays? I'm thinking how often do they sell a high quantity of these things over the winter ?

Am I being unrealistic or out of touch ? In any dealing I have had & still have you'd start talking at 10% at least ?

In your enquiries do any suggest more could be discounted to a trade account holder? I will ask some of mine for responses but with Xmas break we may not hear straight away. How many are you asking for and which unit Fastfind 200 or 210(gps)
