Now stop pishing on my fire. I'd make it work! Got an idea of mining out the core of the transom and pouring readymix in there!

And it's not armitage shanks, it's a posher bog than that!

Sounds like the transom would break with some serious wave jumping and a 90hp engine. I wouldn't touch it either.

Can you tell us where the ad was so that nobody else wastes their time by going to see it?

Certainly a lot more recent than the others.

It'll come complete with its own Sea Cadets group if JSP's even looked at it!

Thanks all for the further suggestions - annoyingly work got in the way yesterday so missed the ones ending

We had a look at the Searider on eBay yesterday evening

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Avon-Searider-...d=p3286.c0.m14

Boat is in reasonable condition but the Valient console has been screwed direct to the deck and not sealed in an way that I would be happy with, the wooden backing to all the seats is very rotten and will need replacing soon - I'm sure this is sortable though.

My main area of concern is the state of the engine - it leaks water from all over when running - the gear box has a large crack that runs from the prop back along the casing about a third of its length - stopped with a drilled hole. To be fair he did say this was a common fault with lots of coverage on line, with the drilled hole a recognised fix - we just felt the overall condition of the engine was poor and would need replacing fairly soon

The tubes were in good nick although one chamber had a leak - possibly from the valve.

The trailer looked okay. Looking at the amount of seaweed still stuck to the trailer I'm pretty sure neither the boat, engine or trailer have been regularly washed down after use.

I guess if this does'nt go for silly money it could be good to strip back and replace the engine - transom was sound but the hull seeemd to have some fibreglass repair.

It's already at £2500 - the chap believes he should get around 3k but sold his last one for 6k.

One other odd observation is that the Avon plate states SR5 - does this make it an early or late SR5.4

The seller seemed a really nice guy and honest - maybe the true state of the engine could have been better described but the actual boat apart from the inner console seems very good

The hunt continues .....

Knot Yet... You may remember I posted on the first thread where you mentioned buying the Avon Typhoon as something very similar was in our mind to upgrade from our 3.2m Zodiac over the winter.

Just wondered why you felt the Avon needed upgrading after a matter of days?

Hi David

Good to hear from you and yep I do remember the thread

We are not upgrading - the Avon Typhoon is a totally cracking SIB and there is no way I want to see her go to a new home yet.

However what she did do is make me realise how much I love the feel and fun of SIB's/RIBs, so being not the most patient of girlies I decided I had to have a RIB as well much to hubbys annoyance.

The cunning plan is that we will pack the SIB up for taking to Pembrokeshire and use the RIB here in the South East.

I can't recommend the Typhoon highly enough and worth while hanging out for one - they are fun, fast and yet feel safe and reassuring - I'm really chuffed we have one

Hope that helps a bit

J

A good plan. SIBs are great for exploring the upper reaches of the Milford Haven Waterway, or playing inshore around Tenby & Saundersfoot.

You'll wish you brought your Searider along though, to cruise around the islands.

We keep our caravan down in Dale - so plan to launch at Dale slip and potter around in Dale Roads and Milford Waterway - little bit of fishing, beach BBQ's and fun.

Would love to take the RIB but with it already taking approx 6 hours by car the thought of an even longer journey currently dampens the spirit of Ribbing once there - maybe I'll change that view after we've been out in the Searider a few times!!!

Hello Tornado Ribs and welcome to the forum.

Its good to see you represented here. Can I strongly suggest you take a read at the commercial posting guidelines and consider signing up as a trade member (which will allow you to make posts promoting your products). If you decide not to sign up as a trade member your contribution will still be valued (and e.g. you'll be able to respond to enquiries from tornado owners).
