Cabin flooring question

Whats the name of the material used on most yacht floors (as seen in this rubbish photo)? I'm after a few sheets, can anywhere suggest where I can get some in the Solent?

Teak and Holly

Traditional material is Teak with Holly inlay. There are now alternatives for cabin soles that don't need varnishing and don't mind the odd winch handle being dropped on them! Sometimes called 'charter grade', they use a durable plastic veneer on man made board.

Try one of the boat (yacht) builders in your area.

If you're interested, I have a complete cabin sole for a 1991 (Northshore) MG346. 'Real' T&H. A bit tired but very useable.

Robbins Timber will do it.

Depending on where you're thinking of using it, it can get "dented" quite easily.

I'd love some to replace the rubbish bit of nylon carpet inside my boat - if you find somewhere let me know please

What he said, they are pretty good and deliver to wherever you like. Get the real wood veneer though, the laminate is crap.

The stuff Bassboy is offering will probably come up really nicely with a very gentle sand and revarnish.

I have to disagree about the laminate. I've got it on 'the mother ship' and after 5 years of abuse (90% racing), it still looks like new. The old 'mother ship had real Teak&Holly sole and got knackered very quickly.

I guess there are different qualities of laminate available.
Whilst it doesn't look quite as 'pretty' as real Teak&Holly, I would never go back to it unless I could make sure everyone wore their carpet slippers below decks!!
Maybe if you epoxied the T&H that could be the best of all worlds.

i get all my timber from Bamptons in southampton, just by the Northam Bridge, they will have some ply with the top veneer as you like, they also cut to size.
