Because the valve for filling the tubes was on the inside this necessitated a hole between the cabin and the tube, i.e. a route for water to enter the cabin. Not sure if the tube parted company or the tube was torn but it exposed a weak point in the design which had already been corrected in later boats.

Got it, so the positioning of the valves didn't cause anything at all, but once the tubes were loose allowed water to enter the cabin - I thought it was implied they were the cause ...........
