Calling all Solent Ribbers....

Welcome to 2005….and what a busy year it’s going to be……

Don’t know if this is going to be of any use to anyone, but I hope it is because it’s taken ages to type – my computer crashed twice and so this is third time lucky.

At the risk of sounding like I work for Portsmouth Tourist Information (which I don’t), here are just some of the boating events coming our way in the Solent. I hope you find this useful. For the events with lots of traffic – best to check with pompey qhm (websites below).

*10th-12th June. Ribex. Cowes.
*11th June. Sea carnival. Pompey harbour and Solent. Everyone is welcome to join in a massive parade of all sorts of boats on the sea all crashing about together.
*18th June. Round the island race. Starting Cowes. It’s sailing, but we can infiltrate.
*28th June. International fleet review. Solent. 150 boats from over 40 Navies worldwide will gather on the Solent for the Queen’s inspection followed by a fly-past. Marvellous.
*28th June. Son et luminaire. A reenactment of the battle of Trafalgar off Southsea sea front using tall ships, culminating in a whopping great big fireworks display.
*29th June. International Drumhead Service. Southsea Common.
*30th June-3rd July. International Festival of the Sea. Pompey harbour. Lots more boats crashing about together.
30th July-6th August. Cowes week. Cowes. It’s sailing, but hey.
*16th-17th July. Return of the global challenge yachts. Solent and Gunwharf. The boats return from their round the world race.
*24th -26th August. Cowes classic powerboat weekend. Cowes.
*16th-25th September. Southampton boat show. Southampton. Say no more.

Missus will be pleased.

Forward Planning

Hi All,

I know that Alan P. is trying to coordinate support for the Trafalgar Day Festivities on the water. He needs over 70 ribs to help take part in what will be probalby the last fleet review ever. Please take a look at the BIBOA website for further details. I know the QHM in Portsmouth will be gratefull.

Regards.

We have already volunteered for this for the 27th & 28th June. Ribs need to be over 6m, with at least one member of crew to RYA Level 2.

Further info is available from richardsalaman@aol.com

Should be a good couple of days.

Ian.

Oh no! We're too little (4.8m). What about if we fly a big ensign?

Don't suppose we could hitch a lift with anyone? Beers will be on us (of course!!!!) We've already booked that week off work!!

Can't make the Churchillian on Monday I'm afraid. We won't miss Feb's though.

Cheers,
Kathy and Izzy

ribex

Bollyfish...your post of 7/1/05 says Ribex is 10-12 June 2005, but the Ribex homepage says 3-5 june 2005. Have I missed something?

I expect you're right. I got the dates from the ribex 2004 website (I think), so they may have just been the 'proposed dates or something'. I've seen an ad since, and I think you're dates are right. Thanks for pointing it out, we'd have looked a right pair of numpties turning up on the wrong dates!
