Can You Use Polish On The Tubes

Sick of cleaning stains off the tubes after having my Humber out so wondered if anyone has tried applying a good coat of wax/polish to them and if it kept them clean for a while, mine are yellow and they seem to get dirty very easy and Im sick of cleaning them after every outing.

i used Auto Glym Bumper care, lasts a year or so and a small bottle will do a 7 mtr rib, water beads off it superbly

I am about to use a secret weapon - as suggested by Alan Priddy and a certain JK.

Floor protecting stuff - think it's something like Johnson Klear as available from most supermarkets.

What I DO need though is a brilliant vinyl seat cleaner - white shows up all the marks. I have tried a few products including armour all etc - all crap!!!

lanolin and white spirit mixed up, its the ingredients the Rolls Royce and Bentley use after a service to clean and condition leather seats

I've just tried this it brings the tubes up great

I'm going to say something that flys in the face of all the accepted do and don't here.
I bought a black rib which is thought of as problematic regarding UV degredation,because I found it easier to maintain than a light coloured tube.

The previous RIB I had was black and I used black shoe polish. it's obviously flexible and covers the tube completely,so no sun damage. The boat was 16years old , people regularly asked if it was brand new.

I don't know if you can source yellow shoe polish (there must be some nob's out there needing to clean there yellow shoes).

Just an Idea.

Remember you can get clear shoe polish!!!

It was time for Renagades triennial clean yesterday.
I dont think she needed it, but I had decided I would clean her every 3 years whether it was needed or not.

Pic. 2. Washed down then - 1 application of Ribshine on cone, Logo area had 1 application of Cif. Cif did not remove the "white" well but did clean the strake and other rubber nicely.
Pic. 3. Cone - 3 applications of Ribshine, Logo - 2 of Cif and 1 Ribshine. The white was still not removed by Cif so I gave it a final dose of Ribshine.
Pic. 4. 2 coats of Johnsons Klear over cleaned area.

I used a cloth and sponge to apply the cleaners. I did not resort to abrasive pan scourers mainly because there were none under the kitchen sink.

Tips from experience. Wear gloves. My hands are trashed this morning. I think that there is a load of caustic soda in Ribshine going by the soapy feel on my hands. Mind you, the wife is very jealous of my very shiny nails.
I did do one entire side in the end. Just another 20 odd feet to go now.

I noticed Ribshine contains Caustic - I bet oven cleaner would work just as well....

What did you think of the Johnson Klear - what was it like to apply???

we use Klear when we do our regular polishing (once every blue mooon !) Works fine - none slippy- not my original idea, rather think this one is down to JW. Once polished a rib with silicon -whoops- difficult not to let the other half see you laughing when she jumped into the boat and slid straight off again!

I Use Johnson's Eternum which we also use on our dance floors ! Very good and can be remove with ammonia.

Dead easy. Dig the remains of a bottle out from the depths of the under sink cupboard. Pour onto a damp cloth and wipe over. Simple. Its so easy I went and got a new bottle from Tesco at £2.54/0.5l
I went over it twice before it dried because I had not read the instructions first and was not too happy with the finish.

Yup. Klear (or Kleer!) should be removed with diluted ammonia.
