Cape Horn On A Rib
I'd like to announce oficially, that I just ordered a RIB for my new project - Rounding the CAPE HORN on a RIB. I choose the 6,3 m diesel powered open deck PARKER. The boat will be ready at the end of november. I'd like to start from Punta Arenas, go to Atlantic, round Cape Horn, then to Chilean Channels and through Magellan Strait back to Punta Arenas. All togrther approx. 1200 Nm. Dates: start in february 2004. I'm still collecting money from sponsors , but things looking not bad!
Crew: 2 persons.
The pictures of the Parker 630 are on www.parkerribs.com
There are not pictures with My boat, but there will be as soon, as I manage to make them.
Any comments?
Sugestions?
Advices?
Feel free to write to me I can be late with answers, as I have not internet at home, so please, be patient!
PS. Thank You, Andre!

On a second RIB? No problem! Will be more fun to go on two boats! I'll keep a message in my memory, as my co-pilot is not 100% decided yet
Anyway - Thanks!

OK Arek, so now it is official. perhaps JK will make a special thread for your adventure just like the one for the Jolly Sailor and Bears
By the way I am still waiting to hear from Thewavehumper about the RibNet pennants. I will post it to you to Warszawa if one can be arranged.
Keep us posted about your planning ect, ect cos I am sure that many of us will be interested to read about it specially as winter is coming and not many will be out ribbing Dec/Feb

I will! Especially, becose I'll be ribbing on Baltic in December - Sea trials before sending a boat to Punta Arenas by ship.
In next weekend I'm going to the sea on a 6,3 Parker with outbord 115 HP Mercury. Have to get wet a little With me will go my co-pilot, Michal Kowalski. A RIB will be rented (FOR FREE! ) from Parker Poland.
Thank You Philip!

Good for you and have a good time. How far are you going to take the rib out or is it just in the Bay of Gdansk and around Hel.
Powodzenia
Andre

Please keep us informed as to your progress Arek.
What special problems do you anticipate? Weather, fuel, food, remoteness??
And is this your approximate routing?
Heaps good luck anyway.

Brian! Had You seen my Sponsor Set?! Or have You been there? A little more to the South and that will be exactly the route, what I'll go.
Most problems I'll have with fast changing weather. The second thing is of course fuel. Remotness and food is not a big problem as I used to such remote places and lack or bad food.

Arek,
I am sure I speak for many other people on this forum in expressing my interest. Please post what you can, when you can-especially progress.
What do you think your fuel consumption will be? What will your tank(s) hold? And therefore probable range?
Could you not call in to Ushuaia or Puerto Williams (about the half way mark), and collect more fuel?
I hear also the Chilean Navy runs regular patrols in the area. I am sure you will liase with them as well?
I dont know who your sposors are apart from maybe Parker ??
But hey, massive good wishes and best luck to you.
(And no, Keith, I don't think this is sibbing territory!!)

Just for the record Parker Ribs are not sponsoring this event . We are just the manufacturer of the selected rib for this adventure.
Perhaps there will be some Parker input but not sure of details as yet.
I am sure that Arek in his own time once everything has been put into motion will tell us more.
Andre

I'm back in net, so I can reply for all posts
To Keith Hart - I still counting on You, as on others on that forum! If You can't go for any reason (lack of time; wife etc ) I still counting on Your advice!
Brian - fuel consumption - I prognose, that fuel consumption will be from 1,2-1,5 ltr/Nm on the beginning to 0,5 ltr/Nm at the end. The difference is becouse of weight of the rib on the beginnig and at the end. Exact range is difficult to say before sea trials, but I think It will be 1200 Nm - 1400 Nm.
I'm taking 1 ton of fuel (which is approx 1100 ltr) in 2 tanks under deck and the rest on deck, lasched with ropes.
I'll have to enter to Port Williams to get permission to go through Chilean Channels, which is in fact obligatory (as I'm informed). On that ocassion I'll refuel.
As for sponsors - I'll let know later, after puting a boat to the water
Parker helped me a lot (thanks for Andre and His brother Philip!), and becouse of that I'd been able to put my order now. Andre may not call it as sponsorship, but I feel that without His help all things can't get rolling
Aging Youth, and all others - THANK YOU for Your support

OK Guys! Time for some news!
I think, that some of You have seen the model of the boat, what I choose for rounding Cape Horn. There is a few pictures, taken by Andre. My intentions was to take a few pictures in this weekend, but unfortunately, the manufacturers boat is not back yet (rented by antiterrosts squad. Pssst! Dont tell to anybody!) so I'll have to delay my "training" with co-pilot, Michal.

One more! You can see Andre airborne on his Parker 630. What is really imressed, is the balance of the RIB, when flying
