A recently new product released by the admilatary is the tough charts series, fully waterproof and in ring binder.

Great for taking out on a rib.

If you're going to visit Poole harbour, double check your admiralty charts for updates as buoyage numbering in the harbour was chaged a couple of winters ago. They're all still in the same positions, just got new numbers, but would be pretty confusing for pilotage if you had older chart!

The Tough Charts are OK, but I prefer the Stanfords Allweather Charts. They are just as waterproof as the Tough Charts but they are on plastic "paper" rather than "board" so you can fold them to suit. They also tend to have larger pages which makes navigation easier.
Chart Pack 15: Dorset Harbours and Approaches should do what you want. I'd suggest that you go to a decent chandlers and check out the Stanfords and the Tough Chart side by side and see which you prefer.

I second that had mine good few years now, take them out every trip easy to read. We always clean them when we get back but still good as almost new.

The official line was that h/master felt the need for different numbering systems in each channel rather than one unified system. Now main channel numbers from 1 to thirty something, wheras all North Channel buoys number NC1, NC2.. Similarly Wych and East Hook channels all have their own identifiers. Also think that they've done away with some marks as well.
Worth noting that those marks with names as well as numbers have retained the same name, so Diver, Aunty Betty, Hamish etc still exist just with different numbers. Think some positions have changed slightly as well, but only be a few feet to reflect changing underwater topography
Best wishes
Andrew

The tough charts are great but only cover Poole harbour up to the area of the channel ferries/Poole quay (& into Holes Bay/Cobbs Quay). If you want to go up to Wareham etc you will need another chart. Imray Y23 is good

Paul
