Cherbourg Trip
Hi All
The end of May Bank Holiday weekend just happens to be my birthday weekend.
Jono and I were planning to cross to Cherburg sometime this year, and it seems that this weekend may offer the best opportunity.
The Main Plan would be to leave Poole mid Morning Saturday 1 June. Low water is 0813, but not really relevant. Highwater n Cherbourg is 1250. We would then travel back accross Sunday afternoon - having had the compuslory 'Moules & Frites' lunch (not really compulsory - but a good choice)
As this is the long Bank Holiday weekend it would also give us room for a back up plan - if the weather is poor Saturday we could pootle around Poole and travel across Sunday, or if the weather is bad for the return trip we could stay an extra day there and return Monday - even Tuesday at a push.
Hopefully you get te idea - a nice leisuely run accross from Poole to Cherbourg with some flexibility to allow for weather.
If anyone is seriously interested in joining us - could you please let me know - either put a thread on here, or PM me, or ring me on the mobile number below. You will need to be confident your RIB can make the crossing, but if there is anyone out there who has wanted to cross the channel, and would like to make that crossing in company with others this could be your ideal chance.
I will need definite information by Mid May to book the launch site (parking for trailers etc).
Let me know
Graeme

Why do you guys not join BIBOA??? If you are a member, cruises can be 'advertised' across a broader field of Ribsters.

Thank you for your observation.
I am in fact a member of BIBOA.
Whilst their cruising calendar is good - it doesn't meet with everyone's needs.
In addition to this there are many people who don't like belonging to such organisations - for a whole variety of reasons.
Also, we are not aiming to advertise these 'cruises' to a wide audience - just a few like minded friends enjoying each others company - and providing mutual support for trips that would be more risky alone.
Also, if anyone wants to do a cruise that doesn't fit in with the BIBOA calendar, this gives them the opportnity.
Graeme

You cannot get a wider audience than the internet!

In actual fact it was you who mentioned reaching a larger audience through BIBOA:

Afore this gets into a BIBOA vs not in BIBOA slagging match, can I just wish you a very happy birthday and good weather for the bank holiday Graeme. I'd come with you (whilst not wearing my BIBOA hat) but I'll be in Scotland. (Wearing it! ) on the Hebrides cruise.
Cheers,
Alan

Could book the weather now - but all they have left is force 5 - 6 Westerlies.
Thought I would wait and see if they have any stand by weather nearer the time (looking for a 1 -2 and slight for the entire weekend)

The point I was trying to make refers directly to your comment as above. If you were indeed 'not aiming' to advertise these cruises then the internet is the last place to arrange such cruises, as it IS such a wide audience. MSN messenger, ICQ etc, etc would be the vehicle to arrange these things to a lesser audience.
Simple.....now lets go boating

Rib Net is surely a place for people interested in RIBs - so what better place than to ask if any like minded people fancy a cruise?
MSN Messenger etc can only be used if you have the actual address of ALL people who you would like to ask - this is not the case here.
I cant see what the problem is with asking any other Rib Net users if they would like to join me in an informal cruise. If we didnt do that the SOC weekend would never have happened would it?
As for lets go boating - thats where I will be this weekend - on a cruise around Anglesy - arranged with friends I have met through this forum.

You're lucky, the only friend I have with a boat almost as small as mine is Bill, and he hasn't got an engine!

All I did was ask if anyone was interested in joining me on a couple of trips I am planning - how come all this hassle?
Keith
If you ever want to join us on a trip there is usually someone looking for crew
Also, if there are any trips you want to do - such as Portsmouth to IOW or whatever and you want an 'escort', just let us know.
Graeme

Thanks for the offer Graeme, it's much appreciated. I'm taking Quicksilver back up to Scotland on 15th June. I'm up there for two weeks, I suppose it's a bit far for a long weekend for you?
Thanks
Keith (Scotland is the place to do it) Hart
