I will let you know. I have a Tohatsu 18 2 stroke for the back. Will see how that goes. If I want to go mad I might look for an old Yam 25/30 2 stroke for next year.

Hope you will keep us all informed when you get it unpacked and the first time out on the water.

I’ve been tracking the container ship carrying it for the last few weeks. It’s now in the English Channel so hopefully collecting next week. Updates to follow once it arrives!

Yes straight through Suez. Luckily came through just after all the issues had cleared though.

My friends various experiences (all negative) with Chinese made RIBs might make one think the "issues" may not yet be over.
Hopfully ...for your sake they have improved...

Quite... As the OP of this thread I am pleased to see that someone has bought one as I intended to do. I however for various reasons bottled out.

Lets all see what it is like once it is here and has been looked at and tested a bit.

It is easy to condemn these things but I am pleased that some people are prepared to give it a go and report findings on here

Lots of discussion regarding import duties, VAT, shipping etc, but what about UK compliance? Is the RIB discussed by the original poster compliant? If not Post Construction Assessment on a RIB that size will not give you any change out of 2k

Only if they can be @rsed. They might just go boating. In the UK it's quite possible to buy it, stick a brand new 2 stroke on it and go to sea without insurance or qualifications.

It's a hard won freedom in some people's eyes

True, but you could say that about an MOT on a car, it's fine until something goes wrong, how many people would actually choose to use a boat illegally? What will be the view of the insurance company if there is an accident and you a using a non-compliant boat?

And then what about the second-hand value? No documentation will mean that the boat would be very hard to sell and have a much lower value. I suppose you pays your money and takes your choice.

It is certified I believe. States that it is ‘European Certified, Category C’.

Indeed. Don't underestimate the appetite in certain circles for "getting away with it". All those red diesel users for example...

Or the ones buying commercial use two strokes for their sibs !!

joking aside i was scared off my highfield i bought by this sort of sh1t ,i was so so so lucky to manage to sell it (within a week through one of the most reputable main dealers in the uk ,who would.nt sell me a two stroke) three years after i bought it for more than i gave and then saw it advertised three yaers later in a dealer in Scotland (yes Scotland ) for more than i paid new ..........it was fully ce marked and compliance tested in the eu (italy i think )

so who,s kidding who ! come on , wake up its 2021 ,slightly curious why the small ribber has been banned but all his posts seem to dominate the chat traffic

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde: "To be banned once may be regarded as a Misfortune, to be banned twice looks like Carelessness"

If you are buying it for this season then CE mark is fine, after December 31st the CE mark will no longer be valid in the UK and it will have to be UKCA Marked

I think Piranha ribs had CE marks as well, the stickers are quite cheap!
