China RIB quality???
Hi all,
I am new here and would like feedback from senior memebers....I plan on getting a 5.2M china made rib...manufacturer suggest to get the Hypalon instead of PVC, for the size of boat I want is it nescessary to be Hypalon...it will be used at most once a week, and will be garaged after every use....
Also how are the quality of China made ribs? They told me they use Maxbond 5550 and 5150 for their PVC and 8750 for the Hypalon.....but they dont mean anything to me unless anyone can tell me.....
It will just be used for recreational cruising and I plan on a Yamaha 2stroke 70HP....would this be enough....it has a 20deg V....

the reason I consider a china made rib...shipping to where I am from is much more convenient and prices seems reasonable....although I know reputable brands will really outlast china made ones....

Answered your own question I think.
Given your location your probably best off with a localish made RIB.

hypalon is a harder wearing material, the numbers they have quoted are the glues they use, 70hp will be fine

Tell me the manufacturer details. Maybe I can help. Do you know PU material for RIB?

What specific brand or manufacturer are you looking at?
An aquaintance of mine bought a RIB from a manufacturer in China which he received late last fall. I don't remember what the brand or model of the boat is - it's something I hadn't heard of before. It is somewhere around 5.5m in length with PVC tubes and has a fiberglass hull with an integrated fiberglass arch. It is quite nice looking, and was relatively inexpensive for a RIB of this length (~ $ 14,000 CDN). It hasn't seen any water time yet since he hasn't fitted up an outboard motor. One thing he did point out to me though, is that cracks along the surface of the vertical portions the fiberglass arch have developed just from transporting the boat on a trailer down the highway.
All I could suggest is to do some thorough research about the particular brand, model & manufacturer (one manufacturer may produce for multiple brands) before buying. Having said that, there are some well established European brands that are now getting their boats manufactured in China, without sacrificing product quality.
