Henry,

Ref. fuel consumption if you are ticking along for Mackrel you either want a new machine or get a wee 2-4 Hp Aux, or as our friends in the USA call it more appropriately in your case - "trolling motor".

If noise is important forget an old 2-stroke!

Noise is not really important, it is just nice to have a quiet engine. I would have a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke any day of the week

Good idea with the little trolling motor, might consider that. But if I can afford an etec I will just go for that. They seem very few and far between though second hand

My SR4 will do 32 knots but im led to believe there is 5 kgs difference between 2 and 4 stroke 40 hp, without PTT very difficult to recover on to trailer, mine chines at 28 knots upwards i just trim down a little more and that normally sorts it out, as a bit of fuel info. i would stick with a four stroke, 89 miles out of 44 litres is better than i ever would have got out of a two stroke as good on acceleration as well, Beats AJ's off the line up to 20 kn0ts Ha Ha...!!
Henry. your welcome to check mine out as live in Portishead anytime. well before i upgrade it !!

HF What is the weight of an SR4 and an Etec 40, Yammie 40 2 stroke and Yammie 40 4 stroke I'm thinking the f40 might be lighter than the Etec. it certainly seemed last time I shifted one

Interesting!

Will have to see what pops up and depends if it is within my budget. I am looking at £1500-£2000. I would preferably like to stay around £1500 mark so I have extra dosh for extra e.g. GPS, fish finder and bilge pump. ooo and maybe even nav lights.

That is a kind offer from you to come up and see it. Do you find it is much quieter than the 2 stroke still being a relatively small engine?

When I was looking earlier this year there were a number of SR4's that needed some work doing on them that were in your price range, and the really nice ones were around the £2500 - £3000 mark. An SR4 is an awful lot of fun and excitement per pound spent. Keep looking I am sure you will find one soon.

How much generally will a 40hp 4 stroke yam be, with under 100 hours on it?

Oh I have found my boat, just need an engine! And a few extra to go on. The problem I have is the bargain I am going to collect has the two seats at the front configuration so I will need to rip them out and put a nice console in. Can a SR4 take a console big enough for two people comfortably?

Henry

SR4s hardly chine walk, they just wobble a bit from side to side. It's all part of the appeal. ;-)

I popped into see J the other day, very impressed with your set up there and loving the work going on there too.

The Orange SR5.4 looks amazing and that RC looks like it's going to be a stunner too.

Nice work you two Respect
