Well done Deano - a long day! Some photos of the rig and a quick summary would be great to have?
We spotted you passing north of Inishtrahull - I think you saw donegaldan in his dark Redbay - we were stationary in a grey/white hull and harder to spot. You were making great time - your massive wake/plume gave you away!

I don't imagine so, but to traverse the 704Nm course in 18 hours and loose change is a major feather in anyone's cap*. The logistics and planning alone are a major feat. Some lonely stretches of water with potentially tricky conditions. An AVERAGE of over 38kts (to include refuelling time) is tough to maintain. FYI, a decade ago, it would have been an "all boats" record.

There is no rib specific category just two sizes of powerboat. Assuming this is up to date and the result is verified it would appear to have taken over 25 minutes off the record:

That said, I think the same team hold the UIM record from a subsequent attempt.

Circumnavigation Ireland
I read articles on Thunderchild breaking the long course including the island offshore.
Also in 2009 these guys did it in a 7.4m RIB with a 250hp in 18hrs 38mins so unless another RIB has done it since - Go Deano!
https://afloat.ie/sail/events/round-...-round-ireland
It was then broken by the same guy by 6hrs in a 42ft powerboat, so not a RIB but a record none the less. It also stated there is a sub 30ft class that he still held, assuming the above, Deano may be after that title?

Thunderchild broke nothing except the boundaries of good taste.
There was no previous attempt, so they merely set a record - they could have taken a month and the result would have been the same. The exercise was a publicity stunt - in poor enough taste IMHO as it played to sentiment regarding the sovereignty of Rockall and the (then) recent helicopter tragedy at Blackrock Lighthouse.
Good point about the current RI record being a hard boat. Should make Deano the fastest RIB? They were fairly shifting when I saw them!

Agreed on many fronts re Thunderchild.
I’m sure Deano knew what he was doing - once ratified he’ll let us know in normal style - about 5 words! [emoji1]
