Many cruise liners used to advertise clay shooting as one of the attractions - don't know if they still do?
Still a lot would depend on country ship is registered in - if in international waters etc etc!!!

I have one thanks Manos.
You never said you were shooting clays. Just pointing out Rough Shooting using a dog to work the game will be illegal.
For your information I was shooting clays, vermin and game aged 7. That was a long time ago.

You guys remember the intro scenes from this slapstick-movie "top secret" starring Val Kilmer where they shot clay while riding down big waves on surfboards?! When I first saw the movie about 15 years ago I thought this was the most stupid thing one could ever come up with- well .......
greetings,
Wolfie

Skeet Surfin'
Yep, the 'Top Secret' film had some great scenes with guys on surfboards shooting at clays. I watched it last week.
Just thought I might chip in as I am always being hammered by the HSE regarding safe working practice regarding firearms and explosives. I imagine one point that may be raised by your insurance company if not any other interested party with the authority to intervene and indeed other people on board - a RIB although very seaworthy always bob around a fair bit and there will be a point at which having a fun lovin' passenger with a loaded shotgun concentrating on the target standing unsuported on the deck of a very unsteady boat. Would you really want to be next to someone ready to fire when a wake, random wave etc rocks the boat. I am far from qualifying as a kill-joy but there are more suitable places to stand with a gun than the deck of a RIB.
As a registered firearms dealer I am usually aware of most legal consequences of usage and possession of firearms and shotguns. I am unclear why the sea would not constitute a public place and as such the wielding of a shotgun may cause the local powers that be to uphold some objections. I shall chat to my local liason officer to clarify as we never have many problems getting permission to fire blank firing weapons on film locations.
I shall publish my findings if interesting.
Cheers

certainly agree with Scottydog, this has the potential to be a very bad day out, these 2 sports just don't mix IMHO.

Good point Scotty D and your comments on your findings will be most appreciated. Bear in mind the point on public place but take into account freedom of the seas (conv. Geneva if I remember right). This then goes on to georaphical limits etc etc.
JW, point accepted on lead shot but most clay shooters are very dedicated game shooters (as I am, including the dogs !) and lead shot is now out on most shoots.
Pleased to hear we have some interested shooters on the site.
Cheers
John

forget the shotguns as that's just asking for an accidental tube deflation!
but paintballing........now there's a good idea, you'd need to have rules that no-one aims for the skipper on purpose as I could see a nasty collision occuring.
Oh and not on my new shiny rib!
You could even tie in a deserted beach and re-enact D-Day!!

Andy Stevens and i have been in discussions about running a rib based paint ball tournament. He runs a paintball site in Hampshire and has a Tohatsu with a 150 opti i have a boat with similar power to weight ratio and it should be Kwite a buzz. As far as I can see the drivers must wear a helmet and Visor and no haed on ( jousting type) approaches and adhesion to the colregs should make it safe.
We will let you know when we need some voulunteer passengers

I assume you'll find somewhere nice and quiet for it such as round the back of the island? Don't reckon the Solent yotties would be too pleased to see a couple of RIBs flying around firing at each other! And even less pleased if one of their sails accidentally got splatted with pink paint!

I wouldn't want to put such a large fuel burden on the day.!
The enviromental issues would have to be cosidered as I have no desire to make the sea any dirtier or littered than it already is.
re splatting a sail now theres a thought! How many points for a spinnaker!

Des, a phew years ago I went on a dive charter boat out of Plymouth, which did clay pigeon shooting off the boat! It was called the "McGregor" All good fun if a bit restrictive as bird crossing or coming to you are out!

Just out of curiousity what are the gun laws now? I always had a hankering for getting a black powder long gun (preferably a rifle) for some fun but haven't a clue what the law on owning, storing and buying such would be.
plus the fun of buying and storing black powder

Yep I did a channel islands trip on it as well. Skipper was a bit funny, but boat wasnt too bad.
They had a fire on board a couple of years ago while 'doing maintenance out at sea', the crew jumped off and it sank. Just the skipper and cook on board.... sounds a bit funny but who knows what they were up to.

Guernsey's not that small that it has a spring board at one end you know.
Oh and Guernsey during the summer is commonly refered to as "tropical dot" or during winter "the ar*e end of no where"!
