Cleaning Jerry cans....?

I have just aquired, 3 x nearly new, 20 litre jerry cans, that had diesel in them.

What are peoples thoughts on cleaning them out, before I fill with unleaded for my outboard.?

I have put in some clean petrol, and given them a good shake, then decanted into an old can for disposal, do you think this is adequate?

The few drops of diesel left in wouldn't do any harm

Unless I thought they were dirty, I wouldn't even bother flushing them out
