Sounds crazy but, if you can get them to stick rags soaked in vinegar and left on for a few hours will shift limescale.

I use the same method to remove it from poultry drinkers. Doesn't cost much, isn't harmful to you or the environment either.

I'm out for this summer I'm afraid, will be working on the attaque ready for our family holiday in Brixham third week in August.

The 4.7 is going to be my winter project , the main thing I'm going to need is the grey flat rubbing strake as I need to replace three sections plus the strip around and over the bow.

Definately be up for a couple of outings next season though, would be nice to meet a few of you guys.

It's not crazy at all - vinegar being acetic acid and water. I use it quite a lot for removing deposits from chemical injectors and pumps, it being as you say, gentle on the surroundings (me). However, it will be much slower than the more aggressive acids and in the quantities required, I doubt if it will be any cheaper than a "grownup" acid like hydrochloric (brick cleaner).

Well, if you actually WANT some acid, he's the lad to ask. Mind you, I think it's sulphuric he uses on the red diesel...
