Closest water access to Sheffield/Rotherham
As in the title really guys, doesn't have to be anywhere spectacular, i just need somewhere I can run the engine WOT to work out some issues i'm having.
Only place i've found is Rothervalley country park, and they want 35quid for one hour between 8am and 9am on certain Sundays of the month. Bit pricey for what is essentially an engine test.
I have a large barrel but cant run WOT in it.
Theres gotta be somewhere close? Saw some inland rivers down nottingham way, but dont think they'll reckon too much to me running WOT in the Marinas.
Cheers
Tom

Have a word at Pugneys near Wakefield, I know they offer Powerboat Level 2 on there.

I've used Rother Valley for exactly the same purpose, but I dont recall it costing 35 quid. There is a place out Beverley way which is a caravan site that has a water skiing lake that you can use, but they charge. The next option is the coast, but that's going to cost you much more than £35. A looong time ago, we used to put in on the river at Conisborugh, don't know if you still can or not. Sorry I can't be more use.

rother valley is £35 for 1 hour i think 8-9am only on Sundays = £3.50 for your car.
you could get a day ticket for the river Trent launch from Newark.
i go up to whitby and make a day of it good slip 3 hours each side of high water
not been for a while was about £20 last time i went including car and trailer parking.

It's about £22 now. The OP was twitching about paying £35 at Rotherham valley, the fuel bill to Whitby & back will give him a coronary:P:
.....sh1t happens.......

Fair one but he will get 5hours on the water at sea with the river as a safe area to prove the boat/engine kit etc prior to going to sea.

Yup, agreed. If he talks nicely to the marina chap, he'll let him tie up on a pontoon whilst he fiddles with the engine. Personally I'd go to Whitby.

Cheers guys, i'll have a look at the options mentioned. I don't mind so much paying £35, its just not ideal to only have one hour to run, tinker, test etc and try work out my issue. Think it's a timing issue I have. I'll check out the Whitby option, are there speed restriction on the river?

There's a 5kn restriction on the river until you get to the outer harbour.

We used whitby four times last year including winter time . Not many folk about and the harbour staff pretty helpful and relaxed . I would be surprised if you couldn't try things out , tinker if needed then head over to staithes for a cuppa or a pint in the cod and lobster .... Priceless.

Thanks guys, launched up at Whitby this weekend and managed to sort my issues. Successful trip! Minus the fact it was freezing!
