Club rescue boat disgrace
Thought I would share a couple of pictures of a club rescue boat (whose name I shan't disclose) we recently had in for repair.

I would be sending these to the RYA for referral, and a visit. The condition of that kill cord is shocking! I wouldn't be able to live if something happened in a few weeks due to kill cord failure and I didn't do all I could!
I cant honestly believe that's real, and from a club!

Oh I can, when I see club boat handling skills demonstrated daily !! Today was a classic !! come in for fuel wind blowing off pontoon, Rib comes in to fast bounces then stops. helm steps off no KC, turns around to get the ropes by which time boat is now 1m away engine running and drifting!!

That's bloody shocking. I'm particularly horrified with the loose knot in the kill cord (which must have failed before and been put back, so well known about), but it's all a bloomin disgrace and cannot have been missed.
The new definition of gross negligence if that's an RYA centre.

I see club driving weekly and see the poor standards, but that's because they don't drive often and only do it because they are down to be OD.
Kit in that condition is a serious issue, as it's not down to skill, the club management should be strung up for that, and if it's a training centre they should be stuck off!

Counter argument... the boat was in for repair. So it wasn't on the water on duty...
Was it on active duty last week or was it sat stored for months and now been dragged out to be fixed up?
If it was on active duty and broke has gear been swapped with a spare boat to get the spare on service?

In reply I don't know, and I've been careful to just say club so non affiliated. Still if you have multiple users a cord like that should be binned especially when its next to a sticker which tells you to always wear a kill cord.

Name and shame then report them to the MCA - they are obviously failing in their duty of care to their club members - makes no difference if they are RYA affiliated or not. Clubs like this need to be taught a lesson :-(

Blimey, the Righteous Indignation Meter has just gone off the scale The boat was taken into a workshop for work,,, just possibly, that work included putting right the object of so much fury. The workshop owner/manager has decided to go public with his Client's business OK, so he hasn't "named & shamed" but it's a short slippery slope. Personally, if I'd taken my boat into a workshop, only to find that it was suddenly plastered over the internet, I'd carefully consider where I took it in future
PS Interesting first post BTW, welcome to Ribnet

OR it might have been sat in the compound or years, un-used & unloved & someone on the committee has thought about getting it in order. Simple fact is, we don't know The OP has posted a couple of teaser photo's without any narrative & left us to to make up any story we see fit. Even by my standards, that's a bit harsh
