Clubs/Societies in So'ton/Solent area that welcome newbies- Any Suggestions

Hi There,

My wife and I recently did our PB Level 2 and are now completely addicted. We're in the process of saving up for a RIB at the moment but would like to get involved with any clubs / societies in the area just to build up experience and get advice on what to buy and where to go etc...

So does anyone have any suggestions on any newbie friendly clubs or places to go.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

RIBase
Try Hamble or Gosport Rescue depending on where you are based.

Great clubs that not only teach you great sea manship but allow you to provide a service to others.

Thanks Chaps,

We're based near Winchester so anything close to Southampton would be good. If anyone has any other ideas that would be great as well.

Thanks again,

Phil

Hi..

i am from Southampton and happen to have a small 3.5m RIB for sale if wanted a small RIB to get you started..
There isn't really a RIB club as such, but I know several people meet up for a gathering every so often in the solent area.
Have you thought waht boat you are saving up for?
Regards
alex

Hi, and welcome to Rib.net.

As has been mentioned there doesn’t appear to be any ‘proper’ local Rib based clubs around.
However as Blackroady has said there are quite a few of us based around the Solent and we do tend to arrange cruises occasionally, although not as many as we used to.
It’s the wrong time of year to start looking really as a lot of people have tucked their Ribs up for the Winter, however there may be the odd day out that gets planned by those of us who try to keep going all year.

One of the things I like about this forum is how friendly and willing to help most are, when a cruise is posted there are often invitations to join boats as crew, which would give you the opportunity to try out several boats and see the benefits of different layouts etc, so I’d keep an eye on the cruises section.

A few of us do also get together away from the water at The Churhcillian on Portsdown hill every second Monday of the month for a Beer and a chat. Some months there are quite a few turn up, some months not so many, but you’d be welcome to come along and say hi.

Hi
Have you tried Qcean Quay down in Southampton, Belvidere Road.

We are mainly 'Ribeyes' and there are about 18 boats moored there, all various sizes.

RIB Shack also operate from there, and the guy that runs it, would be more than happy to show you what they have to offer - quarter ownership.

As said, we need more like minded people to get together in Southampton, as I for one, have kids that are fast growing up, and don't like to be seen with the 'grey haired old boy' any more.
