Clydeport conservancy (fee charging) plans opposition

I know a lot of folk on here come up to the clyde estuary to boat but not sure how many folk will be aware that the ports owners, Peel Ports plan to introduce an annual charge for using the waters which extend as far down as Irvine, a vast area which covers most of the popular spots.
I think it would be a shame if a cash rich company like Peel started making money from pleasure boat users

No final details yet but some chat here
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/199iRTeLsZ/

And an opposition petition here
https://www.change.org/p/peel-ports-...hLyd00p0uCycyA
Please sign & share so we can apply pressure to avoid this charge
Cheers

As you say Ken the likely proposed area taking in the Bute area and top of Arran is huge. Many would regard this as open water not a harbour situation justifying charges.

I see Peel Ports haven't yet officially issued a consultation document but will do so soon.

Your Facebook link is to a private group we can't see without joining but I found several pages of chat here...

Sorry, didnt realise it was a closed group, thanks for adding the link for clarity
The linked group is west of Scotland boating , not a bad group to be in if you frequent the area

RIBase
This sounds like one of those bright ideas that someone had in a management meeting, that had the old hands shaking their heads. It'll be impossible to enforce & cost more than it raises.

It is weird because even if everyone paid up voluntarily it doesn’t raise that much money (in Peel Port terms) but it inevitably takes up a lot of management time with the consultation, potential legal challenges (there’s bound to be an angry lawyer or two amongst the clyde yachties), media coverage etc. That’s all before you’ve even brought in a penny. The bright spark who proposed it will probably leave before it ever gets implemented! I did wonder if there was some sort of negotiating lever being tried here by them eg with Scot Gov funding of Ardrossan or planning approvals elsewhere.

I do wonder if someone internally might actually kill it off or water it down before the consultation even starts - or perhaps “in response” to the consultation to show they are listening!

Your pals at Redbay are probably quoting them for a chase boat right now.

Our local inland waterway floated a “consultation” a couple of years ago and I submitted feedback with some realistic ideas. All ignored and the changes were enacted largely unaltered from the proposals. No encouragement for elec propulsion with minimal fee discount to offset the huge cost for boaters to change. Also no account taken of the unbalanced charges such as a 4m open boat with OB over 4hp paying 90% that of a 4 berth cabin cruiser with a 25hp on the back.

In which case, I could support such a measure depending on the remuneration and speed of said boat!
